AMC is pulling Chris Hardwick’s talk show after abuse allegations

Posted: 16 Jun 2018 01:08 PM PDT

On Thursday, actress Chloe Dykstra published a post on Medium detailing abuse allegations about an ex-boyfriend, which many have speculated was about Nerdist founder and TV and podcast host Chris Hardwick. AMC, which was set to broadcast Talking with Chris Hardwick this weekend, announced that it won't air the series "while we assess the situation."

Hardwick has hosted a number of programs for AMC, such as after shows Talking Bad (for Breaking Bad), Talking Saul (for Better Call Saul), Talking Preacher (for Preacher) and The Talking Dead (for The Walking Dead). Last year, he debuted Talking with Chris Hardwick, a talk show which featured interviews with Michelle Monaghan, James Corden, Charlie Hunnam, Jordan Peele, Neil deGrasse Tyson,...

Apple supplier Foxconn now has a North American headquarters in Milwaukee

Posted: 16 Jun 2018 12:42 PM PDT

Taiwanese contract electronics manufacturer Foxconn has purchased a building in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to serve as its North American headquarters, according to the Associated Press.

Foxconn is buying the 611 Building originally owned by Northwestern Mutual, which handed the building over to the company in a ceremony on Friday. It says that it will house 500 workers in the new headquarters, which will also include an "innovation center" designed to aid startups working on applications for the LCD panels that the company plans to manufacture in the state. Louis Woo, Special Assistant to Foxconn chairman Terry Gou, said that the company will "focus on building a stronger corporate team here in Milwaukee."

The company has also announced a...

Comcast’s offer to buy Fox out from under Disney has MCU fans freaking out about X-Men

Posted: 16 Jun 2018 11:00 AM PDT

This week, after a federal court greenlit AT&T's acquisition of Time Warner and effectively signaled a shift toward a more merger-friendly environment in the US legal system, Comcast made good on weeks of hints by making an all-cash bid to buy 21st Century Fox for a whopping $65 billion. It's a conspicuous challenge to Disney's stock-based, months-in-the-making offer of $52.4 billion, and while it's unclear how the debacle will shake out in the end — following Comcast's bid, Disney stock actually went up; it's also possible that the two giants might split Fox's assets — one thing is certain: a horde of Marvel fans are now actively rallying against Comcast's bid for attempting to keep the Fox-owned X-Men from joining their fellow...

Here are all of Jack-Jack’s powers in the Incredibles 2

Posted: 16 Jun 2018 10:00 AM PDT

There are 14 years between the first Incredibles movie and its new sequel Incredibles 2, but one thing that's thrilling to see pay off in both films is watching baby Jack-Jack play with his various powers, sometimes at the expense of the family.

In the first movie, the only people who see Jack-Jack's powers are the babysitter, Kari McKeen, and the villain, Syndrome. From their vantage point on the ground, the Parr family missed out on the aerial fight between Syndrome and Jack-Jack, and they're certainly not home when he tortures the unwitting babysitter.

Writer-director Brad Bird said in an interview with The Verge that the way the first movie left the question of Jack-Jack's powers gave the sequel huge payoff potential: "I knew that...

7 new trailers you should watch this week

Posted: 16 Jun 2018 09:00 AM PDT

A couple weeks ago, I watched The Final Year, a documentary that follows several members of the Obama administration during their final year in office. There's plenty to criticize the doc for — mainly that it never really takes a critical eye to the characters or events it covers — but there's still a lot to enjoy about it, particularly because of the incredible level of access it has.

The documentary's biggest success is in how close it gets to its subjects. We get to be right next to the people who were making immense foreign policy decisions, where they suddenly feel surprisingly normal and human — just some people trying to do their best. Better, we get to see them struggling with issues beyond their control and dealing with fights...

The massive E3 sales you can still shop

Posted: 16 Jun 2018 08:00 AM PDT

E3 has just wrapped, but there are a lot of not-to-be-missed sales from Nintendo, Playstation, and Xbox still going from major retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, while others are matching their prices. But if gaming isn't your thing, there are plenty of other solid deals happening this weekend as well.

Cybermom on the run: this week in tech, 20 years ago

Posted: 16 Jun 2018 07:00 AM PDT

This week in 2018 has been dominated by video game news, since the E3 conference in Los Angeles just wrapped up. The most exciting game I could find from this week in 1998 was the Nintendo 64 puzzler Wetrix, which essentially combined Tetris with terraforming. You can dig up the game itself through emulator sites, and Nintendo Life wrote a great piece about its weird development history — it was the accidental byproduct of a completely different project called Vampire Circus, which was sadly never produced.

Otherwise, the news this week tapped a rich vein of anxiety over digital avatars, online privacy, and having your baby on the internet.

Earlier this year, around 628,000 concurrent Twitch viewers watched...

Netflix has renewed Lucifer for a fourth season

Posted: 16 Jun 2018 06:48 AM PDT

The TV world experienced a bloodbath a couple of weeks ago as a networks decided to canceled a number of shows, such as The Expanse, Scorpion, Marvel's Inhumans, The X-Files, and a number of others. Since then, the usual fan campaigns to save their favorite shows surfaced, helping to rescue The Expanse and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Now, another show can be added to the saved list: Fox's Lucifer.

Fox canceled the show prior to its upfront presentations at the end of May, after it ran for three seasons. The show will now live on at Netflix, which has ordered a fourth season of the supernatural crime drama according to Deadline. The renewal comes a day before the cast's options were about to expire.

Here’s how Elon Musk might use rocket thrusters on the new Tesla Roadster

Posted: 16 Jun 2018 06:00 AM PDT

Last week, SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced bold plans to combine the technologies of his two biggest companies by placing rocket thrusters on future specialized models of Tesla's Roadster. The thrusters won't actually combust, according to Musk; instead, they will expel highly pressurized cold air, giving the Tesla an extra boost in acceleration. It's a move the might technically work, but it also baffles industry experts and engineers: the thrusters won't be very efficient and probably won't be street legal.

Specifically, Musk is talking about incorporating a key piece of hardware from SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket — a tank known as a composite overwrapped pressure vessel, or a COPV. These bottles are made out of a thin metal liner...
