Sandberg (Lights Out) seem determined to turn that universe upside down. Or at least, they want to blow a raspberry at the glum-and-glummer world established by the Zack Snyder trilogy of Man of Steel, Batman V. Superman, and Justice League, plus their neck-tattoo-sporting companion piece Suicide Squad. The first big-screen starring vehicle for one of the oldest superheroes in existence, a kid who can turn into a superpowered grown-up with the help of a magic word, Shazam! would be tough to turn into a grim-and-gritty DC story. | A New Jersey high school adapted Alien for its spring play Posted: 23 Mar 2019 11:07 AM PDT  Like something out of Rushmore or Bob's Burgers, a group of highly-motivated students and teachers in New Jersey staged an elaborate play based on Ridley Scott's classic science fiction film Alien earlier this week as spotted by The AV Club. It's not your typical high school spring play. North Bergen High School's drama club staged the play on the 19th and 22nd this past week, and one of the school's students posted some details about the production on Reddit. They noted that it follows the plot of the film, "with a few scenes added to kill time for scene changes," (which apparently included the Xenomorph walking amongst the members of the audience). | Apple’s next iPhone might be able to wirelessly charge other devices Posted: 23 Mar 2019 08:34 AM PDT  Huawei and Samsung recently introduced a helpful feature in some of their latest phones — the ability charge other devices wirelessly off of the new phones, allowing you to share a bit of your battery life in a pinch. Japanese blog Macotakara (via 9to5Mac) reports that Apple's next iPhone might include the feature. The blog cites Chinese suppliers, which back up an earlier report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo that claimed that the the 2019 iPhone would get such a feature, along with upgraded cameras and a bigger battery. The site also notes that the forthcoming iPhone might come with a new charging cable and the 18W charging port that comes with the iPad Pro, although it won't utilize USB-C. The software maker has been testing versions of this browser internally at Microsoft, and now The Verge has secured an exclusive first look at the early work thanks to a source who wishes to remain anonymous. While the previously leaked screenshots made Edge look very similar to Chrome, Microsoft is adding its own touches and animations to make it look and feel like a Windows browser. | Apple might reveal its game subscription service at Monday’s event Posted: 23 Mar 2019 06:45 AM PDT  Apple is expected to announce new services in TV, news, and finance (with a rumored credit card linked to Goldman Sachs) at its March 25th event. But there's a chance we might also get a look at the company's iOS game subscription service come Monday, as well. Bloomberg is reporting that Apple is "discussing" the gaming service with potential partners. Back in late January, Cheddar first reported about the service, which would let users play a bundle of games in exchange for a monthly fee. If the news subscription service is being referred to as the "Netflix for news or magazines," then this would be a similar concept focused on gaming. | Sticking a leather cover on my laptop seemed like a good idea Posted: 23 Mar 2019 06:00 AM PDT  Until it fell victim to the Flexgate calamity, my MacBook Pro had been spending the past few months comfortably ensconced in a stick-on Toast leather cover. I've always been a fan of phones with leather backs, so when the opportunity arose to have the same on my laptop, it just seemed like a good idea. Or, at the very least, a fun one. I'm not sure I'd do it again, but I can recount the lessons I learned along the way for anyone else who might be curious.
