The National Basketball Association has announced that it will suspend all games after tonight until further notice, following a player on the Utah Jazz testing positive for COVID-19. "The NBA will use this hiatus to determine next steps for moving forward in response to the coronavirus pandemic," the association said in a statement.

The Jazz were in Oklahoma City to play the Thunder this evening, but the game was called off right before it was due to start, with players already introduced and the arena packed with fans. Utah's star center Rudy Gobert was the player who tested positive for coronavirus, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania. The NBA says the player was not in the arena tonight.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, President Donald Trump announced that his administration would be rolling new travel restrictions, prohibiting most travel from Europe to the US. The restrictions will start on Friday, March 13 and last for 30 days. This travel ban does not affect flights from the United Kingdom.

According to the Department of Homeland Security's acting secretary, Chad Wolf, the Trump administration will suspend entry into the US for "most foreign nationals" traveling from certain European countries 14 days prior to arrival. Trump initially alluded to the ban affecting trade, but walked back that statement in a later tweet writing "trade will in no way be affected."

"There will be exceptions for Americans who have...

Google can reportedly revoke Android licenses if TV makers also partner with Amazon

Google can apparently revoke the software licenses from Android TV makers if they also make devices running certain forked versions of its operating system, including Amazon Fire TV, according to a new report from Protocol. If they do, Google's licensing terms for Android reportedly dictate that those TV makers would no longer be able to run the Play Store and Google apps on any devices they make, including phones and tablets.

The policies, which fall under the Android Compatibility Commitment, appear to spell out that devices that want access to the Play Store must run a version of Android that's compatible with the Google-approved version of Android. That means if TV makers want to have the Play Store on their TVs, they can't make TVs...

Amazon has begun restricting the types of sellers on its third-party Marketplace platform that can sell health and sanitation products like face masks, hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes and sprays, and isopropyl alcohol, among other products. The decision, revealed in a note sent to sellers on Wednesday and reviewed by The Verge, is a notable escalation in Amazon's fight against price gouging and deceptive marketing on its e-commerce platform due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

"You are receiving this message because you are currently selling, or have previously sold, products such as disposable face masks, hand sanitizers, disinfecting wipes/sprays, isopropyl alcohol or related products," the message reads. "We have implemented...

Amazon will give all employees diagnosed with the novel coronavirus or put into quarantine up to two weeks of pay, the company announced today. That includes the company's part-time warehouse workers, according to The Wall Street Journal. The move follows Amazon's decision to pay hourly workers who support its campuses even if they're asked not to come to work due to coronavirus through the end of March, which the company announced last Friday.

Amazon also said it will establish a relief fund to help support its contractors and gig workers who are affected by coronavirus. The company's independent delivery service partners, Amazon Flex delivery drivers, and other seasonal employees who may experience financial hardship as a result of...

Chrome tool helps developers make websites more color blind friendly

Posted: 11 Mar 2020 02:14 PM PDT

Google has launched a new Chrome tool that allows developers to mimic visual impairments like color blindness to help them fix accessibility issues on their sites.

Developers can use this feature by launching Google Chrome and heading to the browser's developer tools. There's a new section titled "emulate vision deficiencies," which features a drop-down menu of vision limitations. Selecting one, such as tritanopia (a condition where a person cannot distinguish the colors blue and yellow), would allow developers to mimic the condition, changing the colors of their site so they can see if it's difficult to read without those specific colors.

Google's new developer tools follow the...

Leaked watchOS 7 code reveals new ‘International’ watchface

Earlier leaks have already revealed a lot of the bigger changes rumored to be coming to watchOS 7 and the Apple Watch Series 6, including sleep tracking and watchface sharing, but a new report from 9to5Mac has revealed another new feature: a new "International" watchface.

But unlike the original leak (which 9to5Mac also noted would feature a new "Infograph Pro" face), the International leak actually had images found in iOS 14 that show off what it'll look like. It seems that users will be able to select their favorite country with the watchface, which will then feature a stylized, minimalist version of that flag as a background. It's not yet clear how the time will actually be overlaid on the watchface, nor what (if any) additional...

Go read this New York Times article on the Washington hospital at the center of the US coronavirus outbreak

EvergreenHealth hospital in Kirkland, Washington, is at the center of the coronavirus outbreak in the United States, due to the fact that the state is home to the largest cluster of COVID-19 patients in the country. At least 65 patients have arrived at the hospital for treatment, and 15 have died — a number that accounts for half of the death toll in the US so far.

The New York Times has an inside look at how EvergreenHealth has had to rapidly adjust to the "new normal," which includes overworking staff across all departments: sanitation, engineers, and caregivers. Most of the cases the hospital has received appear to be stemming from a nearby nursing home, where some patients are dying from COVID-19 as quickly as hours after being...

Montblanc’s first headphones are predictably luxurious and expensive

Posted: 11 Mar 2020 01:45 PM PDT

Montblanc

Montblanc has unveiled its first set of headphones: the wireless, noise-canceling MB 01 Smart Headphones. They're built for luxury and long flights, and are predictably expensive compared to other popular models, costing $595.

It's easy to strike down a newcomer (and a bold one, at that) to such a crowded and competitive market, but there are a few reasons to believe these might be worth checking out. Montblanc tells Engadget that it built them under advisement from Alex Rosson, a co-founder of the audiophile company Audeze, along with other well-qualified audio engineers and designers. That alone doesn't guarantee they'll be great, but it's a good start.

The MB 01's ear pads that touch your head are covered in sheep leather, while the...

Quibi is already locked in a legal battle over its rotating video tech

Posted: 11 Mar 2020 01:45 PM PDT

The crown jewel of Quibi's forthcoming short form video streaming service is a piece of technology the company refers to as "Turnstyle," which seamlessly switches between landscape and portrait video orientations depending on how you hold your phone. A new lawsuit filed on Tuesday from interactive video developer Eko alleges that Quibi stole the technology after Eko demoed it to employees of the company, including founder and chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg.

In addition to claiming that Quibi is infringing on Eko's patent for rotating video, Eko's lawsuit says Quibi misappropriated its trade secrets, as two Quibi employees were given access to Eko's proprietary technology under NDA while they were at Snapchat before they left to work at...
