Another Pokémon game is still coming in 2019 Posted: 29 May 2018 06:58 PM PDT Pokémon developer Game Freak has been busy with new titles for the Switch. In addition to Pokémon Quest, announced and released today, the developer will also release Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!, for the system this year. But the developer still has plans for a "core" Pokémon game, due out next year, a spokesperson confirmed to The Verge. Tsunekazu Ishihara, president of The Pokémon Company, promised "a core RPG Pokémon title on Nintendo Switch" from Game Freak in 2017. Few details have been released so far. Whether the game will launch exclusively for the Switch, remain on a handheld system, or be released as a combination of both is still unclear. When asked about launch platforms, the spokesperson... |
The Pokéball Plus will help you catch monsters in Pokémon Go and on the Switch Posted: 29 May 2018 06:57 PM PDT As a supplementary experience to Pokémon Go, Niantic released a watch-like Bluetooth sensor it dubbed the Pokémon Go Plus. The wearable vibrated when pokémon and pokéstops were near as a way to enhance player experience, and now it's making a comeback — sort of. Developer Game Freak announced today that in addition to new Switch titles Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! the company and Niantic have plans for a new peripheral called the Pokéball Plus. The Pokéball Plus will serve as both a joycon for the Let's Go games and the new version of the Go Plus. In addition to motion controls, it also lights up, vibrates, and makes noises imitating the pokémon inside. According to Game Freak, "when catching a Pokémon in the... |
Posted: 29 May 2018 06:57 PM PDT Evan Spiegel publicly addressed Facebook's longstanding practice of copying his company's products Tuesday, joking that Facebook should model Snap's approach to collecting less information about its users. "We would really appreciate it if they copied our data protection practices also," Spiegel said Tuesday night at the Code Conference in Southern California. Interviewer Kara Swisher had asked Spiegel how he felt about Facebook's decision to copy key Snapchat innovations including ephemeral 24-hour stories and augmented reality lenses. Spiegel first said that his wife, Miranda Kerr, cared more about it than he did. (Kerr said she was "appalled" by Facebook's moves in an interview last year.) But then he brought up data privacy — months... |
Two new Pokemon RPGs are coming to the Switch this November Posted: 29 May 2018 06:56 PM PDT The Pokémon franchise is expanding its presence on the Nintendo Switch with two new role-playing games: Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! When both games launch on November 16th, players will get the chance to experience many firsts for the series: couch co-op, mobile integration, and big-screen play, all in the style of Pokémon's traditional RPGs. It's a step forward for Pokémon that begins with a look back. The Let's Go games draw heavily from the handheld Pokémon titles, but they're also as close to a reboot as the game series has ever come. These new games focus primarily on the Kanto region, home to the original 151 pokémon; the player's titular partner, whether Pikachu or Eevee, prefers to hang outside of... |
The Nintendo Switch is getting a free Pokemon RPG today Posted: 29 May 2018 06:54 PM PDT Pokémon Quest, a "rambunctious action RPG" from Game Freak, is available now for Nintendo Switch via the eShop. The developer announced the game today as part of larger reveal for the franchise's future, which includes two other Switch titles, Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! To match its cube-heavy, Minecraft-style aesthetic, Pokémon Quest will take place on Tumblecube Island, where players will explore, battle, and set up a base camp via touch controls. The game is focused on the original lineup featured in Pokémon Red and Blue (meaning catchable critters from the Kanto region). In addition to cooking and customizing a base camp, players will also be able to tailor their squad's stats using power stones and... |
Snapchat plans to launch a developer kit to let other apps access its AR camera Posted: 29 May 2018 05:23 PM PDT Snapchat's best features may soon be coming to third-party apps. TechCrunch reports that Snap Inc. is looking to launch a developer platform that would grant third-party app developers access to Snapchat's login system and its augmented reality camera features, in addition to Bitmoji avatars. For years, Snapchat has remained a relatively closed platform, as Snap has guarded the app's user base from data-hungry app developers looking to hawk products and services to its coveted teen demographic. But TechCrunch says Snap is reconsidering the approach and may imminently launch a platform to be called SnapKit. The approach once worked well for Facebook, which opened itself up to developers starting in 2010 to aide its meteoric rise. Of... |
The redesigned, improved 1Password is now available on Windows Posted: 29 May 2018 05:07 PM PDT Days after releasing it on the Mac, AgileBits is bringing the redesigned, improved 1Password 7 update to its Windows users. All of the key upgrades from the macOS update also make their way to the Windows version, but with the addition of Windows Hello support (including face login and fingerprint authentication). As a quick recap, 1Password 7's new selling points are its easier-to-read sidebar, a handy pop-out window for quick password access when using apps that 1Password can't autofill on its own, and the Have I Been Pwned? database, which allows you to determine whether you've been impacted by the growing number of huge data breaches. Pricing remains the same: customers can pay $2.99 per month for a yearly subscription or $4.99... |
Apple’s HomePod speaker launches in Canada, France, and Germany on June 18th Posted: 29 May 2018 03:22 PM PDT Apple's HomePod gained multi-room audio and stereo pairing with the release of iOS 11.4 and AirPlay 2 today, and soon the smart speaker will be available in more countries. Apple announced that HomePod will launch in Canada, France, and Germany on June 18th. In preparation for that, today's update for the device enables language support for Canadian English, French, and German. They can be enabled right now once your HomePod has been updated. Canadian French will be added in a software update later this year. Users in the three new HomePod countries will also need to wait a bit longer for calendar support, which was another new feature added as part of today's update. That, too, is coming sometime "later this year" according to Apple. |
Carrot, a weather app with personality, is coming to Android Posted: 29 May 2018 03:14 PM PDT The Carrot Weather app is coming to Android, bringing with it a host of useful weather-tracking features — and developer Brian Mueller's human-hating AI character, Carrot, who will help give you the forecast while also mocking your suffering at the hands of those outside conditions. Lifehacker first reported on the expansion to Android. According to Mueller, the app is available now on Android in an early access, open beta. A final 1.0 release still a few weeks out as the developer works to polish up a few features (including a home screen widget). The Android version of Carrot Weather looks like it's bringing all the good features from the iOS version, including the deeply customizable... |
Imgur adds 30-second video uploads so your GIFs can have soundtracks Posted: 29 May 2018 03:08 PM PDT Imgur is launching video after years of hosting still images and GIFs on its platform. "This is a monumental shift for our future, and it furthers our commitment to becoming the world's greatest community powered entertainment destination," the company said in its blog post. Now you can hear the audio that might've originally accompanied GIFs and memes across the web. Roy Sehgal, Imgur COO, tells The Verge that the company is "breaking the sound barrier to make Imgur an even better community-powered entertainment experience." Videos play everywhere you can use Imgur (on both mobile and desktop), but so far, only iOS users are able to upload them. The feature is expected to come soon to other platforms. Imgur has also told TechCrunch... |
