Fb.gg is Facebook’s game streaming hub for stealing Fortnite streamers away from Twitch Posted: 07 Jun 2018 04:16 PM PDT Today, Facebook launched a dedicated game streaming hub nested under its main website, over at Fb.gg, to give Facebook Live streamers who focus on gaming a landing page for better discovery and more prominent placement. The home page will feature streams from players a user follows, either by liking a page or group, and a selection of featured creators and other gaming industry-centric content. It will mainly act as a way to help users find new streamers to watch and games to check out without having to sift through the crowded chaos of the News Feed. Back in January, Facebook launched its own version of Twitch's Partner Program with its own "gaming creator pilot program," which is designed to lure streamers to away from Twitch and... |
Apple drew up a patent for a new kind of blood pressure monitor Posted: 07 Jun 2018 03:29 PM PDT Two years ago, a handful of Apple employees dreamed up a device that would take the company beyond the world of healthcare apps, and into healthcare products. That device isn't the Apple Watch, at least not yet. Instead, it seems to be a device whose function could very well be rolled into future Apple Watch devices down the line. Apple was granted a patent for said device today, and it looks... underwhelming. The design they had patented is for a wearable blood pressure monitor — a cuff, equipped with a sensor (or several) that track when a wearer's blood pressure might be spiking too high or swimming too low. To put a tech spin on things, they mention that the device (might) sport a touchscreen, and (might) be bluetooth compatible. T... |
Fortnite player uses shopping cart to reach mythical ‘spawn island’ Posted: 07 Jun 2018 03:01 PM PDT In battle royale game Fortnite, you need around 100 players to start a match. Until you get enough people in a lobby, players load into what is known as "spawn island," an open area full of guns and buildings that you can mess around with before the battle begins. Once the game starts, you get thrown into the main island, where you fight until only one person is left. Spawn island and the main battlefield exist in the same space, but the starting playground is always just out of reach once the game starts. You can see it, but you can't actually get there — until now. Players have tried all sorts of schemes to get into spawn island since launch, of course. Videos showing players building to spawn island, or trying ride rocket missiles... |
Microsoft confirms Crackdown 3 has been delayed to February 2019 Posted: 07 Jun 2018 02:55 PM PDT Ahead of its big E3 2018 showcase this Sunday, Microsoft has confirmed a report from Kotaku that Crackdown 3 has been delayed to February of next year. The game, the third in the open-world crime-fighting franchise, has been stuck in a troubled development cycle for years, with rumors swirling of late that it may have been on track to be canceled or that it might linger in development hell for years to come. Back in August of last year, Microsoft put its release date as the second or third quarter of 2018, after two prior delays. The previous Crackdown game came out in 2010, and the new title is being made by British developers Reagent Games and Sumo Digital. Yesterday, Kotaku reported that publisher Microsoft Studios had pushed the... |
The Essential Phone’s first new module since launch is a magnetic headphone jack Posted: 07 Jun 2018 02:50 PM PDT The Essential Phone is getting its first new attachment module since it launched almost a year ago. And it's a magnetic 3.5mm headphone jack dongle. Essential revealed it was working on this accessory back in September. The new attachment dongle — called the Audio Adapter HD — is part of a focus on music that Essential announced today, and in addition to providing the missing 3.5mm headphone jack, it also contains a high-resolution ESS Sabre DAC with an "audiophile-grade amp" that's "crafted from machined titanium for exceptional durability." And, as Essential is very explicit in pointing out, it also means that you can finally charge your phone while listening to music at the same time. Also new on the Essential phone is... |
Microsoft is letting Xbox One testers ‘skip ahead’ to features that are months away Posted: 07 Jun 2018 02:18 PM PDT Microsoft is making its Xbox preview program more similar to its Windows Insider testing for Windows 10. A new "skip ahead" ring will be opened up for Xbox Insiders on the current alpha ring, and this will allow testers to access new Xbox features that are typically months away from being generally released. "By piloting builds well in advance of their release, Xbox Insiders will play an even bigger role in shaping the future of Xbox," explains Savannah, an Xbox program manager. The skip ahead preview ring will be similar to the one available to Windows 10 testers, and will include new apps and features that are part of Microsoft's Redstone 5 wave for the Xbox. Microsoft is currently testing its next major Windows 10 update, codenamed... |
Oh my god, Wargroove is gonna let you play as a dog commander Posted: 07 Jun 2018 02:12 PM PDT Wargroove is a turn-based strategy game where you control an army, and that crew is led by a special officer. Most commanders look like humans, or at least walk on two legs. While the Advance Wars-inspired game isn't out yet, we already know that one of the characters is objectively the best one. Meet Caesar. He is a dog, which is to say he is very good. I would die for this boy. Actually, I kind of have to — this is war. But still. Caesar can be the player's avatar. As a commander, he comes equipped with powerful abilities that can give you the upper hand in battle. We don't yet know what Caesar's powers will be, but I'm sure they'll be perfect and worthy of many head-scritches. Even Caesar's backstory is great:

J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot is launching a video game division backed by Tencent Posted: 07 Jun 2018 01:19 PM PDT J.J. Simply called Bad Robot Games, the new division is being announced alongside a "strategic relationship" with Chinese internet giant Tencent. Warner Bros is also a minority investor in the new venture. According to Bad Robot, the studio will focus exclusively on original games. "Bad Robot Games will team up with traditional game developers to create both large and indie-scale projects for mobile, PC, and console — leveraging its world-building and storytelling expertise, in-house creative directors and network of visual artists, musicians, sound designers, writers and other world-class talents,"... |

The president of the Philadelphia 76ers just ‘resigned’ over a massive Twitter scandal Posted: 07 Jun 2018 12:42 PM PDT Never tweet. At least not from a burner account. Last week, The Ringer published an extensive report on the suspicious connections between Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations and general manager Bryan Colangelo and five burner accounts on Twitter that sent out numerous tweets criticizing other NBA executives, the behavior of current and former Sixers players, and leaking privileged medical information about said players. The tweets sent shockwaves through the NBA. Today Colangelo resigned from his positions with the 76ers. The scandal placed Colangelo — a member of what is widely considered the first family of the NBA, alongside his father Jerry Colangelo, the former owner of the Phoenix Suns and director of USA... |
