Samsung’s Galaxy S10 might come in three sizes, with an in-display fingerprint sensor Posted: 16 Jul 2018 05:05 PM PDT Samsung's still weeks away from announcing the Galaxy Note 9, but we're already moving on to rumors for the company's next flagship phone: the Galaxy S10. According to Business Insider, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Sunday that he believes the S10 will come in three different sizes: 5.8 inches, 6.1 inches, and 6.4 inches. Those are very nearly the same sizes that Kuo expects Apple's next series of iPhones to come in, letting Samsung match Apple one for one. The larger two S10 models will include in-display fingerprint sensors, Kuo says, while the smaller model will include a fingerprint sensor on the side. That suggests the smaller model will be Samsung's entry-level offering, while the larger two will potentially have higher-end specs and... |
Uber’s gender discrimination problems are the focus of a federal investigation Posted: 16 Jul 2018 02:57 PM PDT Uber is being investigated by the US government's Equal Employment Opportunity Commission over concerns about gender inequity at the company, according to The Wall Street Journal. The commission's probe was reportedly opened last August, right around the time that Dara Khosrowshahi was chosen to replace Uber founder Travis Kalanick as CEO. Gender discrimination at the company became a widely discussed issue after Susan Fowler, a former Uber engineer, published an account of the sexism and sexual harassment she experienced during her time there in February 2017. Investigators are interviewing current and former employees and looking through company documents in order to learn more about how gender is treated in Uber's hiring practices... |
The best 4K TV deals from Amazon Prime Day Posted: 16 Jul 2018 12:36 PM PDT Amazon's annual sale Prime Day is now in full swing. But this year, television deals seem a bit sparse, with only a handful of discounts worth considering at the moment. It should be noted that Amazon is also staggering some of the deals out, so at different hours of the day, more should go live. A Toshiba-made Fire TV Edition is featured, but Amazon is also sneaking in deals from companies like Sony and TCL. These aren't necessarily the best sets available from either company, but you're getting good savings on TVs that many might consider perfectly fine. Check back here as we head through day one of Prime Day and update this post regularly with more deals.

Lyft will offer discounts to people who use bikes and scooters to connect to transit Posted: 16 Jul 2018 12:35 PM PDT Fresh off its purchase of the largest bike-share operator in the US, Lyft says it's adding incentives and discounts to encourage more people to use bikes and scooters, especially to and from mass transit hubs. The goal is to get more people to abandon their personal cars in favor of mobility services owned and operated by the ride-sharing company. Earlier this month, Lyft acquired Motivate, which runs Citi Bike in New York City and Ford's GoBike program in San Francisco, for a reported $250 million. Since then, the company has been working to integrate bikes and scooters into its platform "from the ground up," Lyft's co-founders said in a Medium post Monday. |
Apple won’t replace faulty MacBook Pro keyboards with third-gen components Posted: 16 Jul 2018 12:30 PM PDT The new, third-generation MacBook Pro keyboards are definitely quieter, but they won't be used to swap out the faulty ones from older MacBooks, reports MacRumors. In a statement, Apple says the third-gen components are "exclusive" to 2018 MacBook Pros, so if you plan to take your laptop in for a repair, don't expect the latest hardware — unless you buy an entirely new computer. Last month, Apple unveiled a service program for the malfunctioning MacBook keyboards after determining that "a small percentage of the keyboards in certain MacBook and MacBook Pro models" might have keys that are "sticky" and don't respond consistently. Additionally, some letters on the keyboard would repeat... |
The story behind Ant-Man and the Wasp’s hilarious (and heartbreaking) post-credits scenes Posted: 16 Jul 2018 12:28 PM PDT Warning: the following post contains spoilers for the end of Avengers: Infinity War and Ant-Man and the Wasp. When Marvel's Ant-Man and the Wasp hit theaters on July 6th, one big question needed to be answered: how would it tie into Avengers: Infinity War? That movie ended with Thanos (Josh Brolin) killing half the universe's population — including half its superheroes. Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Spider-Man (Tom Holland), and many others were reduced to ash, making it unclear how Marvel's latest movie, released barely a month later, could follow the blockbuster without addressing its massive loss of life. Marvel handled it by designing Ant-Man and the Wasp as a prequel, with the bulk of its... |
Amazon’s Nintendo Switch Prime Day deal bundles a 64GB microSD and $20 eShop gift card for $299.99 Posted: 16 Jul 2018 03:15 PM PDT Amazon's Prime Day is upon us, and the company posted its Nintendo Switch deal. For $299.99, you will receive the console, a SanDisk 64GB microSD card, and a $20 Nintendo eShop gift card. That's a good deal. The microSD typically costs $20, so you're receiving a $40 bonus for buying the Switch on Prime Day. It sold out less than an hour after going live. Now you'll just need to buy some games, and we have our recommendations here. (Zelda and Mario, of course!) As always, you can keep checking The Verge for more deals. We'll be updating the website as they pop up. Update July 16th, 6:14 PM ET: After the initial stock sold out, it appears that Amazon now has more Switch bundles, though, it will likely sell out soon. |
Virgin Orbit plans future rocket launches from the UK Posted: 16 Jul 2018 12:22 PM PDT Small launcher company Virgin Orbit is taking some of its rocket launches to the UK. The company, a spinoff of space tourism venture Virgin Galactic, announced today that it is aiming to conduct missions of its new rocket, LauncherOne, from the Cornwall Airport Newquay on the southern tip of England by 2021. That will give Virgin Orbit at least two places to launch from — including its primary site in Mojave, California — as the company continues to search for other takeoff locations. If all goes according to plan, Virgin Orbit's launches could be the first flights to go to space from British soil. Though the UK did announce this weekend that it intends to build an additional launch site in Scotland sometime in the early 2020s. However,... |
Amazon’s website crashed as soon as Prime Day began Posted: 16 Jul 2018 12:16 PM PDT Amazon's website has been experiencing issues for hours now due to heavy online traffic on Prime Day, the e-commerce giant's made-up holiday designed to boost sales. According to DownDetector.com, Amazon has been experiencing issues since around 3:05PM ET today, with a large spike in reports immediately after Prime Day officially began at 3PM ET / 12PM PT. It's not clear how widespread the outage has been. According to DownDetector, the outage is restricted to the US, and it appears to still be affecting large parts of California and the New York as of 5:30PM ET, with a smattering of smaller outages in the Pacific Northwest and other parts of the country. Some users have reported being able... |
