Marvel’s Iron Fist season 2 will begin streaming on September 7th Posted: 19 Jul 2018 07:36 PM PDT Today at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel announced that Iron Fist would return to Netflix for its second season on September 7th, and the news was accompanied by a short teaser showing Danny Rand (Finn Jones) fighting on the streets of New York City. The teaser hints that Danny and the city will face some sort of larger conflict, and he sees it as his duty to protect his new home. The show comes shortly after the larger Netflix team-up show, The Defenders, and follows the sophomore seasons for Netflix's other Marvel shows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage. But while Iron Fist was one of the most-watched shows from Marvel TV, it wasn't well received by critics, who pointed to its boring action scenes and editing, nonsensical... |
Watch the first trailer for Nightflyers, the George R.R. Martin space horror show Posted: 19 Jul 2018 03:13 PM PDT Today at San Diego Comic-Con, the Syfy Channel hosted a panel with its cast and crew for its upcoming space horror show, Nightflyers, and showed off the first full trailer for the series. The show, based on a novella by George R.R. Martin, teases the horrors that the crew of an interstellar spacecraft face when they embark on their mission. When we got a first look at the show in March, Martin said that it would be like "Psycho in space." This new trailer teases out a bit more of the story: Earth is dying, the crew of the Nightflyer is going further into space than anyone has before, and it is humanity's only hope of survival. But once the mission gets underway, there's a "malfunction" that kills several people, and the crew begins to... |
Sony is making a limited edition ‘Amazing Red’ PS4 Pro for Spider-Man’s launch Posted: 19 Jul 2018 02:56 PM PDT Sony is no stranger to releasing custom-edition PlayStation 4 consoles to celebrate the launch of big games, but sometimes they can frankly be pretty hideous. But this red PS4 Pro, available as part of a Spider-Man bundle on September 7th, is definitely going to appeal to gamers who love their comic books. It's red. It's vibrant. Sony calls it "Amazing Red," according to the box. There's a huge Spider-Man logo stamped onto the top. What else do you want? It also comes with a physical copy of the game and vouchers for DLC. Here it is from another angle: The included controller perfectly matches the console's color scheme, too. White buttons? Somehow it works. I'm not sure whether the top of the console is glossy or not;... |
Microsoft says hackers already targeted three 2018 midterm candidates Posted: 19 Jul 2018 02:40 PM PDT Hackers have already targeted at least three 2018 Congressional candidates, according to a Microsoft executive, who disclosed the attempted cyber-intrusions today during a panel at the Aspen Security Forum. Tom Burt, corporate vice president for customer security and trust at Microsoft, noted at the panel today that the company had tracked attempts to use fake Microsoft domains for espionage activities in 2016. Those attempts were linked to a group Microsoft calls "Strontium" — the same hackers who targeted the Democratic National Committee in 2016, and who have been tied to Russian military intelligence. The company has been active in taking down those domains, he said, but similar activity has continued into this year. |
Scooter startup Bird will discount rides for people in low-income brackets Posted: 19 Jul 2018 02:31 PM PDT Scooter-sharing startup Bird is ditching the $1 base ride fee for people in need of financial assistance, the company announced today. People who are "currently enrolled in or eligible for" state or federal assistance programs like SNAP or Medicaid will instead only have to pay the 15 cent-per-mile fee that Bird charges all riders. Individuals who want to access the discount have to email a specific account that Bird has set up for the program with proof of their enrollment or qualification, name, and phone number. Bird says approval should take two to three business days. The company is offering the discount in all eighteen cities that it currently operates in. As TechCrunch points out, Bird competitor Lime spun up a similar program... |
Samsung and Xiaomi increased their dominance of India’s mobile market last quarter Posted: 19 Jul 2018 02:07 PM PDT The US and other regions are now heavily saturated with smartphone users, so tech's biggest companies have their eyes on India as the next key battleground to compete for market share. In the second quarter, Samsung and Xiaomi continued to lead all other competitors, with each company shipping 9.9 million smartphones in the country, according to new numbers from Canalys. Together, Samsung and Xiaomi made up 60 percent of India's total mobile shipments, which is a jump from 43 percent last year. Vivo and Oppo round out the list, tallying 11 percent and 10 percent of shipments, respectively. Samsung's most popular model was the Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro, a phone initially aimed at students in South Korea that curiously has no access to the... |
Oculus will start selling a Rift bundle with Marvel Powers United VR next week Posted: 19 Jul 2018 02:06 PM PDT For those who've been on the fence about jumping into high-end virtual reality, Oculus VR is trying to sweeten the deal ahead of the launch of its new flagship game, Marvel Powers United VR. The title features a number of official Marvel heroes as playable characters in a co-op narrative-focused brawler, and it's due out next week on July 29th. Today at San Diego Comic-Con, Oculus, which funded the game produced alongside developer Sanzaru Games, is announcing a retail bundle for $399 that will come with a free copy of the game, a Rift headset, and two Touch controllers. Marvel Powers United VR is slated to retail for $39.99. The standard Oculus Rift headset costs about that much, so this is... |
The Wemo Mini is the first device to get software support for Apple’s HomeKit Posted: 19 Jul 2018 02:03 PM PDT It's been over a year since Apple first announced that it would let device manufacturers add support for its HomeKit smart home standard with just software authentication (instead of requiring an Apple-approved physical chip), and now the Wemo Mini smart plug is the first device to implement the standard with a firmware update that's already beginning to roll out today. Once the update hits, Wemo Mini owners will be able to use the smart outlets directly with HomeKit, without having to pay extra for the $40 Wemo Bridge hub that was previously required to use the devices with Apple's smart home standard. That said, you'll still need the hub if you have other Wemo devices you'd like to use — although Wemo says... |
Disney is bringing back Star Wars: The Clone Wars Posted: 19 Jul 2018 01:47 PM PDT During the 10th Anniversary Clone Wars panel at San Diego Comic-Con, creator and producer Dave Filoni announced that the show would return on Disney's streaming service, finishing off the story that was widely considered to be left hanging after the show's abrupt cancellation in 2013. From 2008 to 2013, The Clone Wars ran on Cartoon Network, revealing the massive war that took place between the theatrical, live-action movies Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. It featured existing characters such as Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi as well as a number of original fan-favorite characters, including Anakin's apprentice Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex. In 2013, Lucasfilm announced that it was "winding... |
Elon Musk can’t stop tweeting, but so far it doesn’t matter Posted: 19 Jul 2018 01:43 PM PDT Seen from above, the mountainous national park directly above Tham Luang Nang Non, the Great Cave of the Sleeping Lady, appears tranquil — like someone lying on their side, if they were furred with trees and ran the along much of the length of Thailand's border with Myanmar. It hardly seems like the site of a two-week-long, 10,000-person rescue operation that would pit the resolve of at least one government against the near-constant rain of the country's monsoon season, in a contest to save the Wild Boars, a local boys soccer team. It's unlikelier still as a battleground for international public opinion about Elon Musk, the billionaire founder of Tesla, which produces luxury electric cars, and SpaceX, which stages private rocket flights... |
