New Captain Marvel trailer stars Carol Danvers fighting in space Posted: 03 Dec 2018 06:47 PM PST There are fewer than 100 days until Captain Marvel hits theaters, and Disney is already in full advertising blitz mode, debuting a new trailer for the movie tonight. This marks the second trailer Marvel Studios has released for the movie, which is set to be released only a couple of months before Avengers 4. The first trailer teased Carol Danvers' (Brie Larson) powers as Captain Marvel, a superhero who returns to Earth after years away. Unlike other films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain Marvel is a prequel of sorts. It's not an origin story, but it does take place years before the events of Iron Man, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Incredible Hulk, and Thor. Still, it's safe to assume that some aspect of Captain... |
Quora says hackers stole up to 100 million users’ data Posted: 03 Dec 2018 05:46 PM PST Quora said it discovered last week that hackers broke into its systems and were able to make off with data on up to 100 million users. That data could have included a user's name, email address, and an encrypted version of their password. If a user imported data from another social network, like their contacts or demographic information, that could have been taken too. Some private actions on the site may have been taken as well. That includes requests for answers, downvotes, and direct messages. Content posted anonymously should remain anonymous, however, as Quora says it does not store identifiable information for those posts. "The overwhelming majority of the... |
America’s first self-driving car bill gets last-minute push from Congress Posted: 03 Dec 2018 04:36 PM PST Senators have been negotiating for over a year to pass a bill that would pave the way for a regulatory framework that would govern autonomous cars. As the end of the year approaches, lawmakers are launching one last push to pass comprehensive legislation. The AV START Act is sponsored by the Senate Commerce Committee Chairman John Thune (R-SD), but hasn't moved onto the floor after Democrats like Sens. Diane Feinstein (D-CA) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) voiced concerns about the bill. The opposing lawmakers cited frustrations over safety standards, privacy, and whether consumers should be forced into private arbitration over legal complaints. Many of those concerns have since been addressed, according to an updated bill text and summary... |
Tumblr is already flagging innocent posts as porn Posted: 03 Dec 2018 02:48 PM PST Tumblr announced earlier today that it will ban all adult content on the platform, starting on December 17th. Now, longtime users are criticizing the company's auto-detecting algorithms, which appear to be incorrectly flagging some inoffensive images as explicit. Tumblr is giving users until the start date of the ban later this month to appeal, but the inaccuracies are causing concern that blanket bans on such content could sweep up inoffensive posts and continue to drive a wedge between creators and the Tumblr platform. The algorithms were originally a part of Safe Mode, which is now being replaced with a full-site ban on adult content. The ban is supposed to include all explicit... |
Samsung’s Wireless Duo charger is more than 50 percent off at Amazon today Posted: 03 Dec 2018 02:41 PM PST Samsung's Wireless Charger Duo normally runs for $119.99, but as part of Amazon's "12 Days of Deals" promotion, you can purchase one for $49.99, which is over 50 percent off its usual price. While the charger is made in black or white, it appears that the discount is only valid on the black version. The Wireless Charger Duo is built with Samsung's phones and wearables in mind, hence the smaller pad for its Gear smartwatches, though you'll be able to charge any two Qi-enabled devices at the same speed with this charging pad. To name a few compatible phones, this ranges from Samsung's Galaxy S9, LG G7 ThinQ, iPhone X, iPhone XS, Google Pixel 3, and several more. Two charging pads might seem like overkill, but essentially, it can act as a... |
PewDiePie urges his fans to donate to charity as T-Series battle rages on Posted: 03 Dec 2018 02:14 PM PST Felix "PewDiePie" Kjellberg will soon be overthrown by Indian music production T-Series as the biggest channel on YouTube, but the controversial creator is using his current spotlight to give back. In a video posted today, Kjellberg announced that he's currently raising funds for Child Rights and You, an organization seeking to help children in India. In the video, Kjellberg explains that despite the good-natured efforts made to keep him in the lead, there's also been "a part of this that I really, really don't like." Namely, "really distasteful, unnecessary comments" in which commenters declare "fuck Indians," or "fuck you, India." "This is not what I'm about," he says, "and I know this isn't what my fan base is about either." K... |
Trump says China might kill car tariffs, which would boost foreign automakers Posted: 03 Dec 2018 01:34 PM PST Late Sunday night, President Trump seemed to announce a potentially big development in the ongoing trade war with China. The Chinese government, he tweeted after a sit-down dinner with President Xi Jinping at the G20 Summit, "agreed to reduce and remove tariffs on cars coming into China from the US." China currently applies a 40 percent tax on cars imported from the United States, so a reduction or a complete removal — it's still not clear which — would be a boon to automakers who make cars here to be sold there. Whichever it is, a reduction or a removal of the tariff would hugely benefit a smaller company like Tesla, which has had to constantly adjust its prices in China all year as a result of the trade war. But it's possible that,... |

Cook received the first "Courage Against Hate" award from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), and he used his time onstage to talk about the company's commitment to preventing hate speech from spreading.

The change will go into effect on January 14th, 2019, and will apply to DirecTV, U-verse TV, AT&T Phone, AT&T Internet, and Fixed Wireless Internet accounts. Now, no matter when you cancel, you'll be charged for the full month and the service will continue until the end of the billing period. AT&T already had this policy in place for its mobile service, but now the company is applying it across the board. "Currently, if you cancel any of these services, we give you prorated credits for the remaining days in your bill period," AT&T said in a statement. "Starting January 14, 2019, if you... |
