Rad Power Bikes’ flagship electric bicycle, the RadRover, has a new look

Rad Power Bikes makes some of the most capable and affordable electric bikes in the US, like the RadWagon cargo bike and RadRunner utility bike. On Friday, the Seattle-based company introduced a brand-new bike — well, not exactly brand-new. It's a new look for Rad Power Bikes' flagship model, the RadRover.

The original RadRover is a powerful fat bike, but it only came in one frame size: a high-step with a standover height of 30.5 inches. Now, the company is releasing a step-through version of the bike, making it more approachable and accessible to a broader range of cyclists.

The new model has a standover height that's 10 inches shorter than the original RadRover, which is sure to appeal to customers with knee issues or anyone who would...

Samsung’s new Sero TV can rotate vertically for your TikTok and Instagram videos

Posted: 05 Jan 2020 06:30 PM PST

Images: Samsung (two marketing images combined)

There's probably no clearer indication that vertical video is here to stay than Samsung making a TV designed to showcase it. And that's exactly what has happened. The company has announced that the Sero, a 43-inch 4K TV that can switch from landscape mode (the default) to a portrait orientation, is coming to the US and other global markets. So you'll be able to watch Instagram stories, TikTok videos, Snapchat content, and the portrait video recordings from your camera roll blown up on a relatively big screen — without heinous pillarboxing black bars on the left and right sides.

The Sero originally made its debut in Korea, but is coming stateside and elsewhere in the west this year. Before it was a concept, but Samsung clearly thinks...

Nvidia and Asus announce a 360Hz gaming monitor designed for e-sports

Posted: 05 Jan 2020 06:00 PM PST

When Asus first showed off a 360Hz gaming monitor last year, it was an April Fools' prank. At CES 2020, Asus is bringing the real thing: a 24.5-inch 1080p gaming monitor that runs at 360Hz with Nvidia's G-Sync technology. Asus is claiming this is the world's first 360Hz gaming monitor with G-Sync, and it's designed with e-sports and competitive gaming in mind.

144Hz and 240Hz are typical refresh rates found in most gaming-focused monitors, but you might be wondering why you'd even need a 360Hz monitor. Naturally, you'll need a powerful GPU to reach the types of frame rates where you'll even notice a difference, and you'll need to play competitive games like Overwatch or CS:GO to really take advantage of a 360Hz display.

Withings incorporates two health monitoring tools into one watch

Posted: 05 Jan 2020 05:00 PM PST

For its newest smart watch, the ScanWatch, Withings pieced together two health monitoring technologies: one that detects the heart condition atrial fibrillation, and one that measures blood oxygen levels during sleep.

The ScanWatch sends light through the blood vessels in the wrist to measure the amount of oxygen in the blood. Monitoring oxygen levels could help detect episodes of low oxygen that occur with sleep apnea, a condition where breathing stops during sleep, Withings CEO Mathieu Letombe said in a press release. Blood oxygen readings are also integrated with other data around sleep, like sleep duration and quality.

It seems to be a similar feature to one FitBit includes in its Ionic smartwatch. Neither FitBit nor ScanWatch...

HP’s updated Elite Dragonfly G2 is the first laptop with a built-in Tile tracker

Posted: 05 Jan 2020 05:00 PM PST

HP's Elite Dragonfly was a surprisingly great laptop for a business-focused device, and at CES 2020, HP is already announcing an upgraded version: the Elite Dragonfly G2. The updated model adds better chips, more storage, and two intriguing new options: a 5G modem and a built-in Tile tracker, which is the first on a laptop.

From the outside, the Dragonfly G2 looks virtually identical to its predecessor, which is a good thing, given that the original model looks great. Most of the updates here are largely to put the spec sheet on par with other modern Windows laptops by adding Intel's 10th Gen Core processors (compared to the 8th Gen chips that the 2019 model shipped with), including a six-core option. There are also new 1TB and 2TB...

Netatmo just added a door lock to its portfolio of smart home gear. The creatively named Netatmo Smart Door Lock and Keys is compatible with Apple's HomeKit standard, and it ships with three physical keys that use NFC to instantly and securely unlock the door mechanism when inserted into the lock. If you find yourself without one of the pre-paired keys, you can still unlock the door through the Netatmo Security app, the same app that manages Netatmo's cameras and smart smoke alarm.

You can add additional NFC keys to the lock, or deactivate lost or stolen keys through the Security app. A key can also be configured to unlock multiple Netatmo Smart Door Locks in the same home or in different locations. Once the key is inserted, the...

Jabra announces Elite Active 75t earbuds and $99 Elite 45h headphones

Jabra is launching two new products at CES 2020. Just as it did with their predecessors, the company is following up on the well-received Elite 75t true wireless earbuds with a fitness-focused "Active" version. Coming in February, the Elite Active 75t will feature "a durable coating for dust and sweat resistance" and bump up the water / sweat resistance to IP57. (The standard Elite 75t earbuds have a rating of IP55, making them fine for occasional rain and light workouts, but they're not necessarily cut out for heavy sweat.) Battery life is identical to the standard model: 7.5 hours on a single charge and a total of 28 hours when you factor in the case.

The Elite Active 75t earbuds cost $199 compared to the standard $179.99. If you...

HP’s 15-inch Spectre x360 gets upgraded with smaller bezels and a good trackpad

Posted: 05 Jan 2020 05:00 PM PST

Last year, HP overhauled the 13-inch Spectre x360 convertible laptop with some much-needed improvements: a slimmed-down design, reduced bezels, and a functional trackpad. At CES 2020, the company is bringing those same improvements to the larger 15-inch model, too.

Much like last year's Spectre x360 13, the differences between the old x360 15 and the new one are drastic: HP has massively reduced the bezels on the 2020 model, resulting in a device that's 13 percent smaller than the previous generation. Plus, despite the vastly smaller size, HP is still offering the excellent-looking OLED screen options it introduced last year.

The smart toothbrush is an idea that refuses to die

Posted: 05 Jan 2020 05:00 PM PST

CES means there's no shortage of "smart" connected gadgets, and toothbrushes are no exception. Oral-B and Colgate are launching new smart toothbrushes this year: the Oral-B iO and the Colgate Plaqless Pro Toothbrush.

Oral-B has released several smart toothbrushes before, like the $220 Oral-B Genius X, which used sensor data and an "AI algorithm" to give suggestions on where to focus on brushing. The Oral-B iO also claims it has artificial intelligence and algorithms to "facilitate achieving perfect brushing results in all 16 zones for superior oral health," which is just marketing nonsense using AI as a buzzword. This time, the iO has added a new "magnetic drive," which is responsible for the microvibrations of the bristles. The iO has...
