British 5G towers are being set on fire amid coronavirus conspiracy theories Posted: 04 Apr 2020 09:44 AM PDT A 5G cell tower | Photo by Mikhail Pochuyev\TASS via Getty Images 5G phone masts are being set alight in the UK, after online conspiracy theories have misleadingly linked the cell towers to the coronavirus pandemic. The BBC reports that at least three 5G towers were set alight within the last week, and police and fire services were called to extinguish the flames. "I'm absolutely outraged and disgusted that people would be taking action against the infrastructure we need to tackle this emergency," said Stephen Powis, the National Health Service (NHS) director, at a daily UK coronavirus briefing. Police have now launched investigations into how the 5G towers caught fire. Rumors and conspiracy theories over a link between the roll out of 5G and the spread of coronavirus have been spread primarily through... |
Tech supply chains are still a complete mess Posted: 04 Apr 2020 08:58 AM PDT Last week, we made the case that tech manufacturing was uniquely vulnerable to pandemic problems, from a combination of just-in-time manufacturing practices and a far-flung network of suppliers. 9 new trailers you should watch this week Posted: 04 Apr 2020 07:00 AM PDT One of the few small upsides to the current global mess is that a bunch of movies are hitting streaming services and rental platforms earlier than they otherwise would have: Emma., Onward, and Birds of Prey are on that list, among many others. Another that's now streaming early on Hulu is Portrait of a Lady on Fire, which I caught last weekend. It's a wonderful movie about two women slowly growing closer together over the course of about a week that they're forced to spend together. The movie revolves around painting, as the title suggests, but the film also does some really fascinating things with music. There are three moments in the movie where music plays, and in all three cases, you don't see its origin (a piano, singers, an... |
