OnePlus 6T leaks with a tiny notch Posted: 01 Oct 2018 04:35 PM PDT OnePlus hasn't kept it a secret that its next phone is fast approaching. But surprisingly, there's been little in the way of full-on leaks of the phone — at least until now. WinFuture published leaked images today of what looks to be the phone in glossy and matte black finishes (the glossy version shown above). The real highlight of the design is the notch: its predecessor, the OnePlus 6, had a notch that took up about a third of the top of the screen; the OnePlus 6T on the other hand has a much tinier notch, really just drooping down to wrap around the front-facing camera. It's about as minimal as you can get with a cutout. The design is no surprise — it looks almost... |
Netflix will reportedly release an interactive Black Mirror episode in 2018 Posted: 01 Oct 2018 02:28 PM PDT In its fourth season, Charlie Brooker's dystopian anthology series Black Mirror stirred up some debate over its new dedication to relatively positive endings. The earliest seasons, on Britain's Channel 4, showcased possible technology-driven futures that ranged between relentlessly grim and merely melancholy. But subsequent seasons, produced and released by Netflix, have been skewing in an increasingly positive direction. Episodes like "San Junipero" and "USS Callister," which come with traditional upbeat endings, earned strongly positive reactions from some fans, but for others, they were a sign of the show losing its edge. But what if Black Mirror were interactive and every fan could just pick their own favorite ending? A report in B... |
Microsoft confirms Surface is going ‘back to black’ Posted: 01 Oct 2018 01:30 PM PDT Microsoft has accidentally confirmed it's planning black Surface models. The software giant first launched its Surface RT in a black "VaporMG" variant nearly six years ago, and switched to silver options ever since. In an event listing (that has now been removed) for a Surface event in New Zealand on October 16th, Microsoft says Surface is going "back to black." While the company doesn't list the devices involved, rumors suggest Microsoft will announce a Surface Laptop 2 and Surface Pro 6 in black variants tomorrow. Both devices are expected to launch with Intel's latest processors, and may not include modern USB-C ports. Microsoft will likely keep this black color variant for the high-end models of both the Surface Pro 6 and Surface... |
7 anime to check out this fall, and one complete mystery Posted: 01 Oct 2018 01:15 PM PDT The fall 2018 anime season starts this week with 56 different shows. With so much to sift through, we tried to highlight some that might be interesting for both anime fans and non-fans alike. (Many of these shows are available for viewing internationally a day after they air in Japan, thanks to streaming services like Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Amazon.) If you like high fashion and fightingJoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden WindJoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a bit of a strange series — bizarre, you might say — that follows the lineage of the Joestar family. Each part stands somewhat on its own, focusing on a different person in the family tree, and taking place in its own era and locale. What's consistent about the series is the family's... |
Google’s October security update fixes the Pixel and Pixel XL’s fast-charging problems Posted: 01 Oct 2018 12:27 PM PDT Google released Android's October security update today, bringing with it a few fixes and functional improvements for the company's Pixel devices. Most notable among the patches is a fix for fast-charging issues which have been affecting 2016 Pixel and Pixel XL phones since the release of Android 9 Pie. Google acknowledged that the OS update broke fast charging between original Pixel devices and some third-party power adapters that lacked USB Power Delivery, but everything should be back to normal now. The October update also includes improvements to Android Auto stability and "improved performance for certain protected media formats" on the Pixel 2. You can download it now by going to Settings —> System —> Advanced —> System update. |
FuckJerry’s meme tequila JAJA tastes fine Posted: 01 Oct 2018 11:54 AM PDT In keeping with his reputation as a connoisseur of the proverbial good times, meme-thief and budding lifestyle entrepreneur Elliot "@FuckJerry" Tebele has decided to wade into the crowded and lucrative waters of celebrity-branded liquor. It's fertile territory: everyone from Marilyn Manson (who has an absinthe called "Mansinthe") to George Clooney (tequila, Casamigos, sold for around $1 billion) to Ron Jeremy (rum, Ron de Jeremy) has a line. The reasons to branch out into branded booze are pretty simple: the money is good, and the opportunity to extend your brand to segments of the population outside of your fan base is better. Can you imagine how many times someone's said, surprised, "It's actually really good!" about Clooney's tequila?... |
Some iPhone XS and XS Max devices are experiencing charging issues Posted: 01 Oct 2018 11:18 AM PDT Some new iPhone XS and XS Max buyers have reported poor cellular reception with Apple's latest phones, and now there's another issue that might result in you waking up with an uncharged device in the morning. Dozens of users have reported charging issues with their iPhone XS and XS Max devices, and shared their experiences on the MacRumors forums and Apple's support forums. Specifically, users are experiencing issues where phones will not charge if the Lightning cable is plugged in while the device is asleep. The problem appears to be a software bug — perhaps related to the phone's USB accessory settings — and requires iPhones to be unlocked (or at least have the screen lit up) in order to begin charging. Google is giving advertisers more ways to target YouTube users Posted: 01 Oct 2018 11:18 AM PDT Google is expanding its use of lucrative search-based advertising tools on YouTube, to help advertisers target potential customers as they search for everything from products to movie trailers on the video site. The news, announced this morning at Advertising Week and reported by CNBC, marks a shift in how Google treats YouTube. Increasingly, the company is relying on YouTube as an extension of its core search engine instead of a separate entity. To help drive home the point, Google representatives told the crowd at Advertising Week that YouTube is the second most popular search engine in America, behind Google Search. The logic makes sense, and Google says it has data to prove that many people who search for products, movies, and other... |
Facebook names longtime executive Adam Mosseri as new head of Instagram Posted: 01 Oct 2018 10:41 AM PDT Facebook has named Adam Mosseri, a 10-year veteran of the social network who started as a product designer in 2008, as the new head of Instagram. He succeeds Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, who abruptly announced their departure on September 24th. Prior to his new promotion, Mosseri was vice president of product at the photo-sharing company, having moved over from a VP role managing Facebook's News Feed and interface teams in May of this year when CEO Mark Zuckerberg restructured his entire executive leadership team. "We are thrilled to hand over the reins to a product leader with a strong design background and a focus on craft and simplicity — as well as a deep understanding of the importance of community," Systrom and Krieger said in... |
Google announces Project Stream, will let testers play Assassin’s Creed Odyssey for free Posted: 01 Oct 2018 10:41 AM PDT Google has announced Project Stream, a game streaming service that it is calling a "technical test" with the aim of solving the issues around interactive video streaming. The company has partnered with Ubisoft to stream Assassin's Creed Odyssey to a test group of users through its Chrome browser on a laptop or desktop. Earlier this year, The Information reported that Google was looking into developing a game streaming service that would stream to Chromecast devices. Google says it wants to address issues like graphic degradation and buffering that currently cause issues with game streaming, and especially with AAA titles like those from the Assassin's Creed franchise.
