Logitech isn’t buying Plantronics after all Posted: 25 Nov 2018 07:00 PM PST Reuters broke the news this weekend that Logitech was in talks to acquire headphone maker Plantronics for more than $2.2 billion, but it looks like the deal isn't happening. Logitech tells TechCrunch that "while it had engaged in discussions with Plantronics about a potential transaction, it had terminated the negotiations." A $2.2 billion deal would have been Logitech's biggest acquisition to date by far, although it wouldn't necessarily have reflected a particularly high valuation of Plantronics' consumer business. Earlier this year Plantronics itself bought out video-conferencing solutions maker Polycom for $2 billion, which had to have been the main factor in Logitech's willingness to pay so much. |
Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 is $799 until Cyber Monday ends Posted: 25 Nov 2018 05:50 PM PST If you're looking for a discount on a powerful Android phone to pick up for less on Cyber Monday, Samsung is discounting its entire 2018 phone lineup, which includes the Galaxy Note 9, S9, and S9 Plus. Each model is currently $200 off of its usual cost, and those prices will last through Cyber Monday (November 26th). This means the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is $799 right now at several retailers, including Amazon, Samsung, and B&H Photo. This deal comes with no caveats. It's an immediate discount, not credits on your bill as with most mobile deals these days. And you can use the phone with any wireless carrier. The 512GB model is $1,049, which is just $50 more than the 128GB Note 9 usually costs. For those who want to spend less, the Samsung... |
The best headphone deals for Black Friday Posted: 25 Nov 2018 04:28 PM PST Black Friday is one of the best times of the year to pick up a new pair of headphones, with everything from in-ear buds to noise-cancelling headphones getting price cuts. And best of all, we've already done all the heavy lifting for you, putting together all the best deals from across the internet for your next pair of headphones. The best headphones to buy on Black Friday Sony's 1000X M2 wireless noise-canceling headphones are some of the best around — sure, the newer, M3 version may offer some improvements like better noise-canceling and a more comfortable fit, but at a nearly half-off price of $199.99 (off the usual $349), it's hard to find better headphones for the price. Tom Baker is turning his long-lost Doctor Who movie script into a novel Posted: 25 Nov 2018 01:51 PM PST Actor Tom Baker is best known for his long-running stint as The Doctor in the British TV series Doctor Who, and will soon be returning to the franchise with a new novel, Doctor Who: Scratchman, based on a script that he and a co-star wrote while acting in the show. The book will hit stores on January 24th, 2019, according to RadioTimes (via io9), which says that Baker began writing down ideas with co-star Ian Marter between scenes while filming the series in the 1970s. He later turned them into a script for a possible film, Doctor Who Meets the Scratchman, but was ultimately left to languish in an archive. The story follows The Doctor, Harry, and Sarah Jane as they arrive on a Scottish island,... |
Bitcoin has lost 40 percent of its value in the last two weeks Posted: 25 Nov 2018 01:29 PM PST Bitcoin is in the middle of an astounding price drop, reaching prices as low as $3,520 in recent days and wiping out all gains from coins purchased this year. As of press time, the price was hovering around $3,900, a roughly 40 percent drop from two weeks ago. The result is the worst price drop since April 2013, refreshing old doubts about the soundness of bitcoin as an investment vehicle. It's a dramatic turn from 2017, when the value passed $15,000 in the beginning of December to peak just below $20,000. After that, prices plummeted. By January of this year, it lost half of its peak value, and continued to drop. The drop has been particularly dramatic in the last couple of weeks. The price drop is likely the result of a series of forks... |
