Sony may have decided to skip the video game industry's largest annual expo this year, but Microsoft plans to be back at E3 2019 with its usual blow-out press conference. And now, French gaming news outlet JeuxVideo is reporting that Microsoft plans to discuss its next-gen Xbox lineup as well.

We likely won't get pricing details or product names, the report states, but we'll certainly get some official confirmation of the two devices Microsoft is planning to release next year. The news lines up with the company's slow and steady approach to unveiling its future console roadmap following the launch of the Xbox One X in fall 2017.

At last year's E3, Microsoft...

It's official: the first uncrewed flight of SpaceX's new passenger capsule, the Crew Dragon, is set to launch on March 2nd out of Cape Canaveral, Florida. Both NASA and SpaceX agreed to move forward with the flight today after doing a full day of reviews, determining that the vehicle was ready to see space and travel to the International Space Station. If the capsule successfully makes it to orbit, SpaceX will be one crucial step closer to putting the first humans on board its spacecraft.

Verizon trials Stitch Fix-like mystery box service to sell gadgets

Posted: 22 Feb 2019 03:25 PM PST

Verizon has launched a mystery box service that delivers gadgets to customers' homes, lets them try the gadgets for two weeks, and then charges them for what they choose not to return. The service, called Tech Pack, was announced today through emails sent out to select customers. Verizon is limiting how many people can sign up to start and expects to run out of slots by the end of the weekend.

The service works like Stitch Fix or any number of other mystery box delivery services. When signing up, you take a short quiz about what kind of things you like, and Verizon uses that information to choose which gadgets it'll send you. Verizon will mail out a box of three tech products every so often, and you can keep or return as many as you'd...

YouTube pulls ads from anti-vax conspiracy videos

Posted: 22 Feb 2019 03:22 PM PST

YouTube has removed ads from videos that promote anti-vaccination content, citing a ban on "dangerous and harmful" material. BuzzFeed News reported the news this afternoon, saying YouTube had confirmed the decision after the publication contacted seven companies who were unaware that their advertisements were running on anti-vaccination videos. It's the latest of several ways YouTube has recently restricted conspiracy theories and other objectionable material on its platform.

BuzzFeed reports that the demonetized accounts include anti-vaccination channels LarryCook333 and VAXXED TV, as well as "alternative medicine" channel iHealthTube. The three channels have a total of roughly 473,000 subscribers. "We have strict policies that govern...

Tesla’s Model 3 was the best-selling EV in the world last year

Posted: 22 Feb 2019 02:34 PM PST

The Tesla Model 3 was the best-selling electric car in the world in 2018, according to data firm JATO Dynamics. JATO says the Silicon Valley automaker sold about 138,000 Model 3s, beating out contenders like the flagship EV of state-owned Chinese automaker BAIC (92,000) and the Nissan Leaf (85,000). In total, Tesla sold more EVs than any other automaker in 2018, JATO reports.

The news comes at the same time that Tesla is starting deliveries of the Model 3 in China, the largest market in the world for electric cars. Tesla also recently started delivering Model 3s in Europe for the first time ever. Adding those new markets for the Model 3 is supposed to help Tesla increase sales of the car by more than 100,000 in 2019, according to recent...

Verizon is asking the Federal Communications Commission to let it keep new smartphones locked to its network for 60 days, as part of an initiative to prevent identity theft and fraud. After the 60-day period, the phones would unlock automatically, the telecom says in a note published to its website and authored by Ronan Dunne, Verizon's executive vice president. Verizon says it should have the authority to do this under the so-called "C-block rules" put in place following the FCC's 2008 wireless spectrum auction.

"We believe this temporary lock on new phones will protect our customers by limiting the incentive for identity theft. At the same time, a temporary lock will have virtually no impact on our legitimate customers' ability to use...

YouTube says it’s not restricting ads based on creators’ comment sections

Posted: 22 Feb 2019 02:07 PM PST

YouTube says it's not asking creators to moderate their comments or face ad restrictions, clarifying a message that has worried some of the site's members. Yesterday, amid controversy over child predators congregating on YouTube, the Team YouTube Twitter account stated that "inappropriate comments" could result in videos having limited or no advertising. A YouTube spokesperson, however, tells The Verge that the platform isn't basing these limits on creators' comment sections. Instead, YouTube moderators are evaluating videos that seem likely to attract predatory comments, then restricting advertising as a short-term fix.

These restrictions are part of a larger effort to address inappropriate videos and comments involving minors — one...
