The Simpsons will stream exclusively on Disney+ Posted: 11 Apr 2019 05:38 PM PDT Disney+ is about to become the exclusive streaming service to watch The Simpsons. All 30 seasons of the series will be available at launch on November 12th, the company confirmed today. The announcement was made during its Disney+ conference for investors, which touched upon the future of the company's entertainment plans following the acquisition of 21st Century Fox. The Simpsons is currently available to stream on Hulu, and Disney now has majority control of Hulu, which the company is planning to continue investing heavily into, according to Kevin Mayer, head of Disney's direct-to-consumer product. It's unclear if Disney will retire Simpsons World — a digital service dedicated to The Simpsons made available for FX customers.

Disney+ rolls out on November 12th for $6.99 a month Posted: 11 Apr 2019 05:01 PM PDT Disney's streaming service, Disney+, will launch on November 12th for $6.99 a month or $69.99 per year, the company confirmed on Thursday. Disney's Kevin Mayer, head of the company's direct-to-consumer unit, gave investors their first look at the Disney+ app and interface. Similar to Netflix, Disney+ users are greeted by rows of recommended content, new TV series or movies added to the platform, and genres. Unlike Netflix, there are five hubs that sit at the top of the page, which will bring users to designated areas for Disney's various franchises: Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic. Disney+ will be available to stream through smart TVs, web browsers, on tablets and mobile devices, and game consoles, according... |
Disney+ gets two new series based on Winter Soldier, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, and Vision Posted: 11 Apr 2019 04:30 PM PDT Two new series based on Marvel Cinematic Universe characters are coming to Disney's new subscription service, the company announced today in its first look at Disney+. The series, one called WandaVision and another called Falcon and Winter Soldier, don't have a release date at this time. Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige confirmed the previously reported series during a Disney investors meeting today. WandaVision will focus on Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany), presumably focusing on their relationship with one another. Falcon and Winter Solider will follow the two Avengers comrades a little deeper than what fans have seen from the MCU movies, Feige confirmed. Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan are set to reprise... |
SpaceX lands all three Falcon Heavy rocket boosters for the first time ever Posted: 11 Apr 2019 03:50 PM PDT Following the second launch of SpaceX's Falcon Heavy, all three of the rocket's booster cores successfully landed back on Earth. The two outer cores of the rocket touched down on SpaceX's two concrete landing pads at Cape Canaveral, Florida near the site of the launch. The center core touched down on one of the company's drone ships in the Atlantic Ocean. It's the first time that SpaceX has landed all three rocket cores from one Falcon Heavy flight. The first time Falcon Heavy flew, back in February of 2018, only the two outer cores made it back to Earth in one piece. The center core of that launch missed its target drone ship, when it failed to light all three engines needed to land because of a fuel shortage. So instead the rocket... |
Tesla still isn’t getting enough batteries from Panasonic Posted: 11 Apr 2019 03:31 PM PDT The supply of batteries made by Panasonic is still the "fundamental constraint" on the production of Tesla products, the company said Thursday. The electric car maker isn't getting enough batteries from the production lines that Panasonic operates in the automaker's Reno, Nevada Gigafactory to keep up with the number of cars and home energy storage products it wants to make. The two companies believe more batteries can be made using the equipment in place at the factory though, Tesla said. The statement echoes what CEO Elon Musk told investors on a January 30th conference call, when he said that Tesla was "cell-starved for vehicle production," and that it had to forgo some manufacturing of its home energy products in order to keep pace... |
Disney confirms it will ‘likely’ bundle Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu for one price Posted: 11 Apr 2019 02:59 PM PDT To kick off its Investor Day presentation this afternoon, Disney laid out its direct-to-consumer strategy, going over the many assets that put the company in a strong position as it prepares for a major face-off with Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and other video streaming services. Kevin Mayer, chairman of Disney's direct-to-consumer division, didn't waste time stating the obvious: Disney will "likely" sell its standalone, paid subscription services — Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu — as a bundle for an appealing price. (Disney took a controlling stake in Hulu with the completion of its acquisition of 21st Century Fox assets.) Mayer said Disney "will likely bundle at a discounted price to offer more value for consumers." Hulu's monthly... |
Disney CEO calls social media a ‘powerful marketing tool’ for extremism Posted: 11 Apr 2019 02:17 PM PDT Disney CEO Bob Iger criticized social media platforms for allowing hate to spread, saying they enable the distribution of misinformation and the propagation of "vile ideology." Iger referred to social media as something Hitler "would have loved," according to Variety, while accepting a humanitarian award earlier today from the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a human rights nonprofit that's named after a Holocaust survivor. He added that social media is the "most powerful marketing tool an extremist could ever hope for." Social media is designed to amplify "our deepest fears," according to Iger, while also "constantly validating our convictions." "It creates a false sense that everyone shares the same opinion," Iger said. "Social media allows... |
Uber kicks off its bid to become a public company Posted: 11 Apr 2019 01:32 PM PDT Uber filed documents with the Securities and Exchange Commission to become a public company Thursday, in what is expected to be one of the biggest tech IPOs in history. The company said it lost $10 billion since 2016, underscoring the precarious nature of Uber's business. Uber says it will continue to bleed cash as it seeks to recruit more drivers, find new customers, and generally grow its share of the ride-share market in its paperwork: "Many of our efforts to generate revenue are new and unproven, and any failure to adequately increase revenue or contain the related costs could prevent us from attaining or increasing profitability." The company is seeking a valuation of between $90 billion and $100 billion, as was previously reported... |
Logan Paul helps Alex Jones avoid YouTube ban Posted: 11 Apr 2019 01:28 PM PDT Eight months after YouTube banned Alex Jones, the far-right conspiracy theorist returned to YouTube to sit down with Logan Paul for a two-hour episode of his podcast Impaulsive. This marked the second time in a month that Jones was allowed to appear on a popular YouTube personality's channel, following a four-hour appearance on Joe Rogan's podcast in February. During his latest appearance, Jones discussed dangerous conspiracy theories, including Pizzagate and misinformation about autism. These are examples of conspiracy theories that YouTube has spent time trying to combat. Jones was originally banned in August 2018 for using a secondary channel to live stream after his primary account was prohibited from doing so. Jones has now slowly... |
