PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is now banned in Nepal Posted: 12 Apr 2019 05:13 PM PDT Battle royale shooters Fortnite and Apex Legends may have surpassed PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds in some ways, but PUBG is back in the headlines for a controversial new reason: some governments are outright banning the game. Last month, we heard how police in India arrested ten college students for playing PUBG after some cities in Gujarat, India restricted the title, and now an entire nation has done the same. Nepal has directed every ISP and mobile operator to ban the game, according to The Kathmandu Post, The Himalayan Times, and Reuters. According to the Post, Nepal is also prepared to arrest players now that the game has been banned. As you might guess,... |
Motorola came up with the best Android gestures: here’s how to use them Posted: 12 Apr 2019 02:00 PM PDT Google's transition away from Android's traditional three-button navigation toward the switch to gestures on the Pixel 3 was a little rough. Google seems to be figuring things out and improving the Pixel's gestures for Android Q, but other companies have already come up with better approaches. Motorola has probably nailed it the best so far. The "one-button navigation" introduced with the Moto Z3 Play is also available on many of the company's phones released since, including the new Moto G7, G7 Power, and G7 Play. You might not think there's a good reason to make the move to gestures; it doesn't necessarily add to the experience of using your device or make anything easier. But at least in Motorola's case, it makes sense, is easy to... |
Watch the first real gameplay trailer for Star Wars: Vader Immortal Posted: 12 Apr 2019 01:38 PM PDT Lucasfilm's ILMxLAB showed off a new trailer for Star Wars: Vader Immortal at Star Wars Celebration, giving the first real look at the gameplay and story for the long-awaited VR experience that the company is working on together with Oculus. Officially titled Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series — Episode I, the VR title will be the first of three episodes telling a new story written by David S. Goyer (centered around Darth Vader, of course). Players will take on the role of a smuggler pulled out of hyperspace near Mustafar, where they come in conflict with the Dark Lord of the Sith himself. And while the details of that conflict aren't quite clear yet, it seems that players will be able to wield a lightsaber, and possibly even duel... |
HQ Trivia’s most recognizable host Scott Rogowsky leaves the company Posted: 12 Apr 2019 01:12 PM PDT HQ Trivia host Scott Rogowsky said today that he's giving up the gig to focus on hosting sports streaming service DAZN's baseball show ChangeUp. TMZ first reported the departure and attributed it to a disagreement between HQ and Rogowsky over his desire to host both HQ and ChangeUp. He reportedly wanted to host HQ only on the weekends, but HQ wanted a full-time commitment. HQ CEO Rus Yusupov confirmed to TechCrunch that Rogowsky is leaving the show, but he added that the company ran a survey of its top players who voiced that guest host Matt Richards was their favorite, which seems irrelevant to Rogowsky's disagreement and mostly just a dig at the former host for wanting a different job. Yusupov also said the show plans to bring in more... |
Game of Thrones: the final season Posted: 12 Apr 2019 12:57 PM PDT It's been a long, dark road to the end of Game of Thrones. The book series that author George R.R. Martin calls A Song of Ice and Fire launched in 1992, and HBO's screen adaptation, which began in 2011, has since become an international phenomenon. For seven seasons now, the story of the divided, war-torn country Westeros and the people vying to rule it has brought people together for viewing parties, character analysis, and passionate debate about everything from Jon Snow's parentage to who will eventually claim control of the Iron Throne. Season 8, the final arc of the story, begins on April 14th, 2019. What was once a sprawling, complicated story with dozens of separate threads has boiled down to a few major conflicts. In the North,... |
All the updates for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Posted: 12 Apr 2019 12:43 PM PDT The Rise of Skywalker is the last of the Star Wars "saga" films that include the original, prequel, and latest sequel trilogies. It's also the last Star Wars film in the works at the moment. With the success of 2015's The Force Awakens, Disney CEO Bob Iger said Lucasfilm is planning for the next "decade and a half" of Star Wars films. But following the rough productions of the two standalone "Star Wars Story" films, Solo and Rogue One (and Solo's comparatively shaky take at the box office), he walked that back, saying fans should expect a slowdown in the pace. Lucasfilm has since canceled a nascent standalone film that was reportedly about Boba Fett. But Rise of Skywalker won't be the last we see of the franchise: Disney is prepping two... |
Tesla’s original plan for the $35,000 Model 3 is dead Posted: 12 Apr 2019 12:40 PM PDT Tesla has completely torched its original plan for the $35,000 Model 3. Late on Thursday night, the company announced a fundamental change to what is supposed to be the most affordable version of its first mass-market car. Compared to the version that was put on sale on February 28th, the new $35,000 Model 3 will now use a different battery pack, it will no longer have manual seats or cloth trim, and it will only be available to order by phone or at one of Tesla's stores. But the newly announced changes go beyond functions and cosmetics. The version of the car Tesla announced in 2016 with a $35,000 sticker price was supposed to be affordable because of design and... |
California to allow testing of light-duty self-driving trucks Posted: 12 Apr 2019 12:19 PM PDT California would allow for the testing of light-duty autonomous trucks on public roads under a proposed rule announced Friday. The state's Department of Motor Vehicles announced the proposal today, which outlines a permitting process for companies wishing to test or deploy driverless trucks for testing. The rule would only apply to autonomous vehicles weighing less than 10,001 pounds. That means only Class 1 and 2 trucks — which include minivans, pickup trucks, utility vans, and step vans — could receive permits for testing under the proposed rule. All vehicles in Class 3 through 8 — which include walk-in delivery trucks, semi trucks, buses, and heavy-duty construction vehicles — would not be allowed under this permitting system. |
Oculus says ‘tens of thousands’ of its new controllers include secret messages Posted: 12 Apr 2019 12:17 PM PDT If you're an early buyer of the Oculus Quest or Oculus Rift S headset, you may get a hidden message in your motion controllers. Oculus executive Nate Mitchell tweeted today that the phrases "This Space For Rent" and "The Masons Were Here" had been printed on components for "tens of thousands" of Touch controllers. The Easter eggs were only supposed to appear on prototypes, but Mitchell says they "accidentally made it onto the internal hardware for tens of thousands of Touch controllers." "While I appreciate Easter eggs, these were inappropriate and should have been removed. The integrity and functionality of the hardware were not compromised, and we've fixed our process so this won't happen again," Mitchell tweeted. He added that a small... |
Breaking down all the key moments of the first Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker trailer Posted: 12 Apr 2019 12:11 PM PDT The first trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (the newly announced, official title for Episode IX, the upcoming conclusion of the Star Wars Skywalker saga) is here, and Lucasfilm has given fans a surprising amount of footage to dissect. There are virtually no details on Episode IX's actual plot or story in the trailer, just a lot of disconnected scenes, but there are still plenty of hints about what to expect from The Rise of Skywalker. We've broken down all the key moments of the trailer below, along with our best guesses at what it all means. The trailer opens with a shot of Rey on an unknown desert planet. (Jakku? Tatooine? Geonosis? Somewhere new?) "We've passed on all we know," Luke Skywalker intones in a voiceover. "A... |
