Disney's upcoming Disney+ streaming service is shaping up to be quite the deal. According to CNET, the service will launch on November 12th with support for four simultaneous streams and 4K included, all for the base price of $6.99 a month. Subscribers will also be able to create and manage up to seven profiles on a single account.

That will make it highly competitive with Netflix, which raised its prices earlier this year and has in place stricter limitations on simultaneous streams. Netflix now costs $9 a month for a standard definition plan with only one available stream. If you want HD streaming, you need to pay $13 a month, and that gets you two simultaneous streams. For 4K and four simultaneous streams, it's $16 a month. (The...

Disney+ confirms its Obi-Wan Kenobi series will begin shooting in 2020

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Ewan McGregor's long-rumored Obi-Wan series is officially coming to Disney+, the company confirmed today.

McGregor was onstage at D23, the company's biennial convention, to make the announcement. "It feels so nice to say," McGregor said.

Disney and Lucasfilm originally planned a feature-length theatrical Star Wars spinoff, according to a Hollywood Reporter story from 2017. But after two Star Wars spinoff films, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Solo: A Star Wars Story, didn't perform as well as Disney had hoped, the Obi-Wan side story was reportedly taken off the table. A third spinoff movie was planned (reportedly poised to focus on Boba Fett), but Disney and Lucasfilm decided to not move forward. The company ended up pushing back...

The first Mandalorian trailer brings a little Mad Max to Star Wars

The first public trailer for Jon Favreau's highly anticipated Star Wars series The Mandalorian has arrived, and it looks fantastic.

Although a similar trailer was shown at Star Wars Celebration, it was never made available to the public. The trailer opens with helmets on stakes, and ominous shots of people hanging out in the desert. Then it moves into Star Wars action — fighting spaceships, battling droids, and face-to-face confrontations. It certainly feels freakier than a traditional Star Wars movie, but it also feels extremely Star Wars.

The Mandalorian is one of the biggest launch titles coming to the new streaming service Disney+. It's heavily inspired by fan-favorite character Boba Fett and his father, Jango. The new Mandalorian...

Here’s the first trailer for Disney’s live-action Lady and the Tramp remake

Posted: 23 Aug 2019 05:07 PM PDT

Disney unveiled the first look at its live-action adaptation of Lady and the Tramp today, featuring two adorable pups trying to make sense of a live-action world.

Lady and the Tramp is just another installment in Disney's live-action remake blitz, following The Lion King, Aladdin, and Dumbo earlier this year. Unlike those three films, however, Lady and the Tramp won't screen in theaters. It's a Disney+ exclusive, meaning those who want to watch it will have to sign up for Disney's streaming service.

It was originally set to be released in theaters, but Disney changed its strategy to encourage more people to sign up for Disney+. Lady and the Tramp is the studio's first major release to get the treatment. It might be for the best,...

She-Hulk and Moon Knight are getting their own Disney+ shows

Posted: 23 Aug 2019 04:45 PM PDT

In addition to the freshly announced Ms. Marvel TV series, familiar Marvel characters She-Hulk and Moon Knight are heading to Disney+ to star in their own separate TV series, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced today at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California.

She-Hulk is Jennifer Walters, cousin of original Hulk Bruce Banner. After Walters received a blood transfusion from Banner, she accidentally took in some of his gamma poisoning and became an intelligent, controlled iteration of the Hulk. Moon Knight is about a mercenary named Mark Specter who was left for dead in the Egyptian desert. Marvel describes the character as a man "struggling with multiple personalities and amoral inclinations" who acts like a cloaked avenger.

Can Disney+ secure the streaming rights to the Sony Spider-Man movies?

Disney is racing to re-acquire the streaming rights to some of its biggest movies, since the digital ownership of many of its titles has changed over the last decade. Now, as Sony and Disney's Marvel Studios seem ready to end their relationship, questions about whether Disney will buy the rights to Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home for its new streaming service, Disney+, have entered the equation.

But the company isn't ready to offer any clear answer at this moment. Disney+ streaming service president Michael Paull told The Verge during an interview at D23, the company's biennial conference, that Disney "has nothing to announce on that" at this time.

Still, it's hard to imagine that Disney wouldn't want to bring the...

The first person has died after being hospitalized from what appears to be an unknown lung illness linked to vaping. 193 people have been struck with similar symptoms between June 28th and today, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The pain has been especially acute in Illinois, where the number of e-cigarette users who were hospitalized for lung symptoms doubled over the last week. Right now, 22 people have been hospitalized; 12 more people's cases are being reviewed.

It's not yet clear whether the symptoms associated with the hospitalizations are from a single illness. In Illinois, the people who are being hospitalized are relatively young: between the ages of 17 and 38. Symptoms include being...

Ms. Marvel TV series will bring a live-action Kamala Khan to Disney+

A Ms. Marvel show based on the popular Kamala Khan version of the character is coming to the Disney+ streaming service, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show — which could be formally announced during Disney's upcoming D23 presentation for the service this weekend — would be the sixth Marvel show planned for Disney+.

While details are slim, ComicBook claims it's corroborated the report, with the additional detail that the show (like the other announced Disney+ Marvel series) will be produced by Marvel Studios (the company's film division) and tie directly into the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, as opposed to the Marvel TV wing (which connected shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the now-canceled Netflix series to the MCU, but...

Posted: 23 Aug 2019 02:28 PM PDT

The Olympics and Paralympics are coming to Tokyo next year, and official fleet provider Toyota is planning a massive deployment of battery-electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles.

The vehicles come in all shapes and sizes: cars, buses, shuttles, scooters, mopeds... you name it. Toyota sees the Olympics as its big chance to showcase its lineup of experimental and alternative fuel-powered...

Apple contractors were allegedly listening to 1,000 Siri recordings a day — each

Each of the big five tech companies has been caught secretly using human contractors to listen to conversations recorded by their gadgets and services. Pro-privacy Apple is one of those companies, and thanks to a report from the Irish Examiner, we may know a little more about the actual work Apple contractors did, including having to listen to an arduous 1,000 Siri recordings every day.

Apple's Siri assistant currently records and sends snippets of your voice requests back to Apple to be studied so that Apple can try to make Siri better at giving you what you want. In July, The Guardian reported that contractors also hear some rather personal things, like "confidential medical information, drug deals, and recordings of couples having...
