Samsung revealed in July that it had made "improvements" to protect the Galaxy Fold's screen, and now it's giving us a firm release date for the foldable handset today. The updated Galaxy Fold will be available on September 6th in Korea, the company announced.

In the US it will arrive "in the coming weeks," according to another press release. It has been rumored that it would launch in the US on September 27th, but we haven't had that confirmed by Samsung yet.

Samsung is also offering a new thing it's calling "Galaxy Fold Premier Service," though details on what exactly it is are vague beyond "direct access to Samsung experts who can provide you tailored guidance and support over the phone any time, any day. This includes an optional...

As Dorian threatens real destruction, Trump pushes a fantasy forecast

President Trump Receives Briefing On Hurricane Dorian At White House Photo by Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images

After badly battering the Bahamas, Hurricane Dorian is making its way up the Atlantic coast of the US — but President Trump is still inexplicably calling attention inland to Alabama, a state that is nowhere near the hurricane's current path. On September 4th, he tweeted a video of himself with a doctored National Hurricane Center map in hand, saying Dorian "could've, uh, was going towards the Gulf." Trump pointed to what looked like a bubble drawn over Alabama in black sharpie to indicate that the state had at one point been in the path of the storm.

It was not. Although the trajectory of the storm shifted rapidly over the past week, the National Hurricane Center never released a forecast showing that chunk of Alabama in danger of being...

Amazon is ramping up its fight to take over your living room

Posted: 04 Sep 2019 03:59 PM PDT

Amazon has gotten pretty good at getting its services into your living room so far. Every year, the e-commerce giant sells millions of Fire TV Sticks, cheap little devices that are designed to plug into the back of your existing TV and equip it with all the streaming services you could possibly need. But as smart TVs and the built-in apps they carry improve, there's eventually going to be less of a need for simple, standalone streaming devices. Today, we got our clearest look yet at how Amazon is preparing for that future.

The retailer had three announcements today: a new soundbar that also works as a streaming device, a new Fire TV cube that will release internationally, and new Fire TV Editions that are coming to the UK and Germany....

Jeremy Renner’s app is shutting down because of trolls

Jeremy Renner's free app, Jeremy Renner Official, used to be a wholesome place for fans of Marvel's Hawkeye who wanted to celebrate everything about the actor-turned-musician. But now it's shutting down because of trolls.

The app has been around for a couple of years, but it picked up attention over the last few months. It was designed as a community hub for fans who used the Instagram-like feed to see photos of Renner, post their own stories, and hang out. Genuine Renner fans, who would sometimes refer to Renner as J Rens in comments, were suddenly greeted by a group of trolls. Things came to a head over the last week when trolls found a way to impersonate Renner and other fans, using the opportunity to post hateful comments and harass...

Hulu is trying to turn Margaret Atwood’s Handmaid’s Tale sequel into a show, too

Posted: 04 Sep 2019 03:11 PM PDT

The Handmaid's Tale Hulu

The Handmaid's Tale is Hulu's flagship original series, and it might be getting even bigger, thanks to The Testaments, Margaret Atwood's upcoming sequel to the original novel that inspired the series. Hulu is reportedly looking to develop The Testaments into a TV series with MGM Television, according to Deadline.

Most plot details about The Testaments (which will be published September 10th) are still under wraps, but we do know that the novel is set 15 years after the ending of the first book, and is narrated by three female characters. But presumably wherever Atwood takes the story, Hulu and MGM are interested in putting it on TV.

Since the Hulu series has already expanded far beyond the novel's scope, it's easy to see how Atwood's...

Overwatch is coming to the Nintendo Switch

Posted: 04 Sep 2019 03:03 PM PDT

Overwacth

Blizzard's colorful hero shooter Overwatch is getting more portable very soon. Today, during its Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo revealed that the team-shooter would be launching on the Switch on October 15th. Both Eurogamer and Kotaku reported the news earlier in the day. The port also sounds like a pretty good deal: it'll come bundled with 15 character skins and a three-month Nintendo Switch Online individual membership, which is required to play online.

It's shaping up to be a busy year for Overwatch. In addition to the Switch port, the game has already added two new heroes in 2019 — Baptiste and Sigma — along with major changes like the creative Workshop mode and a new role queue feature designed to create more balanced team...

How to try Android 10’s best new features

Posted: 04 Sep 2019 02:21 PM PDT

If you've got a Pixel or the Essential Phone, chances are that you've got — or are about to get — the full stable release of Android 10, which has a bunch of interesting new features that are worth checking out.

But where do you find them? I installed Android 10 on my original Pixel XL late yesterday (yes, I've still got the first version of the Pixel — so sue me), and except for a few stylistic changes, the new features weren't immediately obvious.

You can find them easily enough, though, if you know where to look.

Installing Android 10

First, of course, you have to make sure you have the new OS installed. If you haven't gotten a notification, it's easy enough to find:

  • Open your phone's settings
  • Select System > Advanced > System...
