New Mandalorian trailer promises Star Wars beasts, fighting spaceships, and bounty hunters

Posted: 28 Oct 2019 06:17 PM PDT

A new trailer for Disney's first ever live-action Star Wars show, The Mandalorian, has arrived, just a couple of weeks ahead of Disney+'s highly anticipated launch.

The new trailer includes a few interesting shots, including putting a spotlight on some of the space beasts that will come across the Mandalorian's path. There are also new spaceship fights, and a promise that fans will get a deeper look at bounty hunting — a "difficult profession." The time for peace has come to an end.

Set in between Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi and the rise of the First Order in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the show follows a new character played by Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones). Pascal described him as "a mysterious lone gunfighter in...

Elon Musk's request to dismiss a defamation lawsuit filed by a caver was denied by a Los Angeles judge today, Bloomberg reported. The defamation suit centers on tweets where Musk called the caver, Vernon Unsworth, a "pedo guy." Musk also sent emails to BuzzFeed journalist Ryan Mac, which are now part of the case.

A jury will decide whether those tweets and emails count as recklessly negligent, US District Judge Stephen Wilson ruled.

The debacle began during a Thai rescue operation, when a group of boys were trapped in a cave. Musk, along with some of his engineers, built a mini submarine that they sent to Thailand. Unsworth dismissed the mini sub in a CNN interview as a "PR stunt," and said Musk could "stick his submarine where it...

Space tourism venture Virgin Galactic is now a publicly traded company, thanks to a reverse merger. The company's billionaire founder, Richard Branson, was on hand at the New York Stock Exchange Monday morning to celebrate the public offering, along with firework shows and a giant banner of his eye adorning the outside of the building.

For its first day of trading, the company's stock — under the ticker SPCE — was on the rise for a good part of the morning. Shares opened at $12.34, but ultimately closed at $11.75 — a .3 percent decrease.

The question now is if public investors will put their money into a company focused on sending...

This weekend, Cory "King Gothalion" Michael became the latest massively popular Twitch streamer to depart the platform for Microsoft's competitor, Mixer. In a video posted to Twitter on Sunday, Michael called his decision to leave "easy-peasy."

"It just made sense to have a partnership like this one, where I get to have the potential of having, you know, platform-level input, as well as the backing of one of the biggest names in gaming," Michael said. And he's a big name himself: before his departure from Twitch, the Destiny streamer had amassed just over a million followers on the platform. (At the time of this writing, Michael's channel had just over 32,000 followers on Mixer.)

Michael joins Michael "Shroud" Grzesiek and Tyler...

There's a bunch of brand-new ones (I love the otter) as well as emoji to represent people with disabilities, gender-neutral emoji (following in Google's footsteps), and a new way to select the skin colors of each individual in the holding hands emoji.

Here are images of all of the new emoji, from Emojipedia:

How to delete your Siri history in iOS 13.2

The current iPhone upgrade to iOS 13.2 brings a variety of features, not the least of which is improved privacy for those who use Siri. Responding to the outcry over how it handles the data collected by its voice assistant, Apple has offered users a way to delete all of the recordings that Siri collects during use. The company has also stopped sharing audio recordings with human staffers in order to improve its service. Instead, it asks you to opt in to that feature via a pop-up that appears when you upgrade to this latest version of its mobile operating system.

If you were too quick to opt in when you upgraded and have decided you don't want to share your voice with Apple (or if you opted out and have decided that you don't mind if a...

Tesla is offering a discount on solar panels and batteries to people who are affected by wildfire power outages, Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted today. More than 2 million people across California have been affected by power outages since October 25th as utility companies try to prevent their power lines from sparking new blazes. A fire just north of San Francisco has already consumed more than 66,000 acres and is only 5 percent under control.

Musk offered $1,000 off to customers who are affected by the outages. His generosity is likely to benefit more affluent Californians' who are...

iOS 13.2 finally lets you change video resolution in the camera app — if you have an iPhone 11

Apple finally has added the option to change the resolution and frame rate of video recordings in the camera app in the newly released iOS 13.2, fixing one of the single biggest annoyances about shooting video on an iPhone. There's just one catch: the new feature is only available on the iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max.

It's not the biggest camera update in iOS 13.2 — that crown still goes to the new Deep Fusion "sweater mode" — but it's a long overdue one. Now — instead of having to exit the camera app, enter the settings app, navigate to the camera menu, selecting the "record video" menu, and then finally select your video mode and frame rate — you just tap on the top right corner. Tapping the left side icon toggles between 4K and HD...

Facebook employees ‘strongly object’ to company’s political ad policy

Facebook employees are urging Mark Zuckerberg to rethink his stance on allowing politicians to lie in political ads. In an open letter to company executives obtained by The New York Times, more than 250 people said the policy — which exempts such ads from Facebook's third-party fact-checking standards — threatens what the company stands for:

Misinformation affects us all. Our current policies on fact checking people in political office, or those running for office, are a threat to what FB stands for. We strongly object to this policy as it stands. It doesn't protect voices, but instead allows politicians to weaponize our platform by targeting people who believe that content posted by political figures is trustworthy.

They added that it...
