Watch these robot blocks cluster together with a hive mind Posted: 01 Nov 2019 05:40 PM PDT MIT researchers first showed off its self-assembling "M-Block" robot cubes in 2013 — and this week, they shared a video of what they're calling M-Blocks 2.0 (via TechCrunch). Like the first version of the blocks, M-Blocks 2.0 move by generating momentum with an internal flywheel, and can climb on and around each other using magnets: But these new blocks also have a "barcode-like" system on each block face that they can "read" to do things like follow a specific path: And they can also act with a hive mind to find each other and cluster together: Though this might seem terrifying, there are more benevolent expectations for the blocks right now. MIT News reports that the researchers envision... |
Google Fi is offering the Pixel 3A for just $299 Posted: 01 Nov 2019 04:22 PM PDT Photo by Vjeran Pavic / The Verge Google's Pixel 3A is a pretty good mid-range phone with a great camera. It normally starts at $399, but there are a couple deals right now to get the unlocked phone for up to 25 percent off — though you'll have to activate the phone to get the discount. If you buy the Pixel 3A or Pixel 3A XL through Google Fi, the Pixel 3A is discounted to $299, while the Pixel 3A XL is discounted from $479 to $359. The discount will already be applied when you check out, but if you don't activate the phone within 30 days of getting your shipment confirmation email, Google says you'll be charged for the difference between the discount and the full price. In its terms for the deal, Google says the offer is valid "while supplies last or while the promotion... |
Ant-Man 3 is in the works, with Peyton Reed back to direct Posted: 01 Nov 2019 02:47 PM PDT Ant-Man 3 is reportedly in development, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Peyton Reed, who also directed Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp, will return to helm the third movie. There aren't any additional details at this time. Paul Rudd's Scott Lang was a key player in defeating Thanos, and the Reporter suggests Rudd will likely reprise his starring role. There are a number of Avengers characters who will receive new movies in Marvel's Phase Four universe, too — that's anything after Avengers: Endgame. Ant-Man 3 will reportedly follow Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder, according to the Reporter. It's expected to shoot at the end of next year or at the beginning of 2021. |
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel arrives April 2022 Posted: 01 Nov 2019 02:34 PM PDT Sony Pictures' highly anticipated sequel to 2018's Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse will arrive on April 8th, 2022. The company tweeted out the announcement attached with a cool, glitchy video featuring a warped Spider-Man logo. It can be seen below.
There's never been a more important time for Miles Morales and the Spider-Man future at Sony Pictures. Morales and the Spider-Verse represent a future for the character within the larger Sony Spider-Man universe. Sony and Disney are working on a third Peter Parker-starring Spider-Man movie — one that stars Tom Holland and features Spider-Man within the Marvel... |
Amazon blames ‘error’ for blocking Nintendo resellers from listing products Posted: 01 Nov 2019 02:27 PM PDT Photo by Sam Mellish / In Pictures via Getty Images Images Amazon Marketplace sellers who deal in new, used, and refurbished Nintendo products woke up to a peculiar notice yesterday: without warning, Amazon was telling third-party sellers that they could no longer list Nintendo products of any kind without seeking approval. The policy change appeared to affect both Nintendo games and Nintendo hardware like 3DS handhelds. At first blush, it looked like two companies had stuck a so-called brand gating deal, common in e-commerce and designed to restrict third-party sellers who may traffic in counterfeits. After a day of silence, Amazon says the email notifying Nintendo resellers of the apparent policy change was a mistake. "Yesterday's email was sent in error and all impacted listings were... |
‘Busted e-scooter’ was the best Halloween costume of 2019 Posted: 01 Nov 2019 01:59 PM PDT Courtesy of @emdubbbb Every year, people scramble to find that one Halloween costume that best captures the zeitgeist of the previous 12 months. This year, we got a lot of people who dressed like the cat in the "woman yelling at cat" meme and so many baby sharks. I don't know if electric scooters qualify as a meme or just a massive trend that's still chugging away, but this person's "busted e-scooter" costume strikes me as the best one I've seen yet. This costume would have worked well last Halloween, too. The e-scooter craze kicked off in late 2017, so it's been going for a solid two years now. But I think it was wise of this person to wait until now before busting it out. E-scooters are firmly rooted in our collective consciousness. We know them. We've... |
How to make Google Assistant or Alexa find any missing item with a Tile tracker Posted: 01 Nov 2019 01:57 PM PDT Image: Tile Back in September, Tile — the company that helps you find your missing items by attaching Bluetooth-enabled tags — announced that you'd soon be able to ask Google Assistant to help you find your Tile-attached items without having to say "Hey Google, ask Tile" every time you make a request. That integration is now here, so we put together a short guide about how you can use it to find your items — and we've compiled some info about how to use Alexa with Tile, too. Google Assistant First, you'll have to set up the Tile with Google Assistant. To do that:

Electric skateboard startup Inboard is for sale and all employees have been laid off Posted: 01 Nov 2019 01:54 PM PDT Inboard Technology, an electric skateboard startup from Santa Cruz, California, is working with a liquidation firm to sell off its intellectual property and assets, The Verge has learned. All 24 employees, most of whom were located at the company's headquarters in Santa Cruz, California, have been laid off. The startup was one of the highest-profile competitors to top electric skateboard company Boosted, and last year announced plans to enter the electric scooter market — a push that seems to have doomed Inboard. Founder (and now-former CEO) Ryan Evans told The Verge his team had locked down "a very large order" from "one of the largest European scooter operators," which explains why the company quickly pivoted away from trying to sell... |
Google is buying Fitbit: now what? Posted: 01 Nov 2019 01:15 PM PDT Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge Google is buying Fitbit and the reasons why are both simple and complicated. It's the kind of big acquisition Google has done before (more money than YouTube, less than Nest or DoubleClick), but this one seems to have struck a particular nerve. My Twitter replies are currently filled with Fitbit customers promising to go buy Apple Watches right now. Whatever happens in the immediate aftermath, Google is going to have a big new team, a big new set of wary users, and a lot of big organizational issues to figure out. In the short term, Google is clearly aware that Fitbit customers are going to be a little spooked. The company was sure to note that it will give those users "the choice to review, move, or delete their data" in the... |
The untold origin story of an AmazonBasics AA battery Posted: 01 Nov 2019 01:01 PM PDT AmazonBasics AA battery | Amazon AmazonBasics, Amazon's store brand, launched over 10 years ago, and we know as little about it now as we do about Amazon as a whole. Like most details about Amazon, the origins of AmazonBasics products are a mystery. In an article for OneZero, Sarah Emerson uncovered the origins of one of Amazon's best-selling products: the AmazonBasics AA battery. She traces the battery straight to the source and works her way to the end of the product's life cycle, pointing out where the trail gets murky. She does a great job of explaining the environmental impact and ethical concerns involved in alkaline battery production along the way. While Amazon won't reveal details about its suppliers on its own, it did confirm Emerson's reporting. Here are a... |
