Taylor Swift provoked fans to go after her rivals and now they’re being doxxed Posted: 14 Nov 2019 06:14 PM PST Photo by Efren Landaos/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images Taylor Swift wants the rights to her own music — and she may have just crossed an ethical line to get it. On Thursday afternoon, Swift asked her gigantic army of fans to get in touch with music industry talent manager Scooter Braun and former label boss Scott Borchetta to "let them know how you feel" about their attempts to keep her from performing her old hits on TV or using them in an upcoming Netflix documentary. That request, of course, would require Taylor's fans to know how to get in touch. So fans promptly began doxxing the pair, publishing what appear to be Braun and Borchetta's private contact information — including phone numbers and a physical home address — on Twitter.

Boosted rolls out squishier wheels for smoother, faster rides Posted: 14 Nov 2019 04:16 PM PST Images: Boosted Electric skateboard and scooter company Boosted has launched a new set of urethane wheels for its longboards that will offer smoother, faster rides. The new wheels are called Boosted 105s, and they cost $169 for a set of four. The wheels are 30 percent bigger than the ones that Boosted ships on its longboards, measuring 105mm in diameter (hence the name), 65mm wide, and 72 durometer — a measure of hardness. They should add about 2 miles per hour to the top speed, meaning the Boosted Plus would be able to reach 24 miles per hour, and the Boosted Stealth can hit 26 miles per hour. The wheels are also compatible with Boosted's second generation longboard, but the company says there's only "limited compatibility" with the Boosted Mini... |
Basecamp now has a totally free version to help you manage personal projects Posted: 14 Nov 2019 03:08 PM PST Image: Basecamp This week, Basecamp launched a new, free tier of its project management software, which it calls Basecamp Personal. Basecamp was originally designed for small businesses, offering handy features like chat, an internal message board, group to-dos, a shared schedule, and more, all in one place. Typically, though, it costs $99 per month, which could be prohibitively expensive if you're just looking for something to help manage tasks in your personal life or with a smaller group of people. Basecamp says Basecamp Personal is designed "specifically for freelancers, students, families, and personal projects," and with it, you can make spaces for up to three projects, work on these projects with up to 20 users, and store up to one gigabyte of... |
Amazon will fight Pentagon contract loss after public criticism from Trump Posted: 14 Nov 2019 02:16 PM PST Illustration by Alex Castro / The Verge Amazon is set to dispute the Pentagon's decision to give a massive, $10 billion contract to Microsoft for cloud services. The Federal Times reported today that the CEO of Amazon's cloud services branch said at an internal meeting that the company would "protest the decision and push the government to shine a light on what really happened." Amazon has reportedly already filed the paperwork to fight the decision. The winner of the contract is set to build the Defense Department's Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure (JEDI), which will overhaul the agency's cloud services. "Numerous aspects of the JEDI evaluation process contained clear deficiencies, errors and unmistakable bias — and it's... |
States to expand Google antitrust probe into search and Android businesses Posted: 14 Nov 2019 01:46 PM PST Illustration by Alex Castro / The Verge The 50 attorneys general investigating Google for potential antitrust violations are expected to expand their probe and examine the company's Android and search businesses, not just its advertising practices, CNBC reported on Thursday. Last September, nearly every attorney general in the United States announced that they would take part in an antitrust investigation of Google led by Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. At the time, Paxton said that the probe would primarily focus on Google's ads business because the company "dominates all aspects of advertising on the internet and searching on the internet." But it looks as though their investigation will be widening and officials will begin to examine whether the company has... |
Xbox chief says Project Scarlett ‘will not be out of position on power or price’ Posted: 14 Nov 2019 01:34 PM PST Microsoft isn't going to repeat its mistakes from the Xbox One with its next-generation Xbox console. "I would say a learning from the Xbox One generation is we will not be out of position on power or price," says Phil Spencer, Microsoft's Xbox and gaming chief, in an interview with The Verge. "If you remember the beginning of this generation we were a hundred dollars more expensive and yes, we were less powerful. And we started Project Scarlett with this leadership team in place with a goal of having market success." That market success will be key for Xbox, after years of falling behind PlayStation sales and questions over its games lineup. Either way, Spencer thinks there are plenty of generations of Xbox ahead. "We had the discussion... |

The Final Fantasy series is coming to Xbox Game Pass Posted: 14 Nov 2019 01:12 PM PST Among the 50-plus new games that Microsoft is bringing to its Xbox Game Pass subscription service over the next year are ten Final Fantasy games. The list encompasses every single-player mainline game released in the series since 1997's Final Fantasy VII, including select spinoff games like Final Fantasy X-2, and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Microsoft included the games in a list of titles that will start appearing "this holiday," and said that they'll be added over the course of 2020. There have been a bunch of different remasters of these games over the years, and in most cases it seems like Xbox Games Pass subscribers are getting the most recent version of each title. There are the HD remasters of X and X-2, and you're also... |
The NSA has stopped collecting location data from US cellphones without a warrant Posted: 14 Nov 2019 01:02 PM PST American intelligence agencies quietly stopped the warrantless collection of US phone location data last year, according to a letter from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence released today. Last year, in a landmark decision, the Supreme Court ruled against authorities looking to search through electronic location data without a warrant. Citing the ruling, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR), a privacy hawk in Congress, wrote a letter to then-Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats asking how agencies like the National Security Agency would apply the court's decision. In a response to Wyden released today, a representative for the office said intelligence agencies have already... |
